Amazing tune,the trumpets are as funky as they come,and Timbaland's voice is a treat.The timing is exceptional,and even the possibly cheesy lyrics are encased in a thrilling pumping hip hop delicacy. need i say more...a legendary album and it was the first album of hers i purchased(nearly 10 years ago)and it really got me into her music. all tracks are 10/10 it is fantastic along with-true blue,like a prayer,hard candy,Confessions,American Life,and the amazing erotica...:) love this album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is definitely better than Ray of Light and is a stunning album to listen to,a fabulous all rounder. Even as a young gentlemen utterly obsessed with Madonna, I refuse to suspend my disbelief that this is a good album, or even an okay album. True, it contains two of my all-time favourite Madonna singles in the shape of Human Nature and Bedtime Story. Apart from that, the general consensus is filler, filler, filler. This is an R&B album largely populated by ballads, none of which left any impact whatsoever on me. The tracks have seemingly merged into one dreary non-event and apart from the singles and perhaps one or two of the album tracks, I can't tell one from the other. When I first heard 'Like a Virgin' I thought it was a novelty record by the annoyingly squeaky-voiced commedienne Sandra Dickinson (BTW she even had the Marylin M look before Madge!) and I'm still convinced it is! How can you take this embarrassing nonsense seriously? Madge obviously thinks she's so daring and original by using a naughty word in a song title ...!!?? Hardly! Not when you consider that Richard Branson had a record label and stores going more than 10 years previously when use of the word was truly groundbreaking. I cringe as I read all these overly sycophantic and dazzled reviews. This is just third rate disco music which is as bland as plain rice and a glass of water. Give it to me is one of the best tracks off the Hard Candy album. Madonna yet again has out done herself and proved that she is indeed the queen of pop!. Fantastic remixes by Paul Oakenfold and Eddie Amador(cd2). Madonna sweeps the floor with all the wannabes out there and never lets her fans down. She comes back each time stronger and powerful than ever before! Keep it up Madge I love you !!!x

This was Madonna's first ever album from back in 1983 when no one knew who she was. Being the superstar today it is hard to imagine there was ever such a time! These songs made her name and image known without setting the world on fire. That was to come later... It is an album full of early 80s dance pop, with influences of old school R&B on certain tracks. I will comment on each track to give my review. Lucky Star (8 out of 10) This has never been one of my favourite Madonna songs but it does have a catchy beat and has that early/mid 80s sound. It is a bit simple in style and the lyrics are not the best (however it was entirely penned by Maddy herself). Having liked most of Madonna's work up untill this album. I was blown away by the complete change of direction. I think this features some of her strongest songs and some of the best production of her career. The albums following this all gained much higher sales and acclaim but this is her forgotten masterpiece.

Although I like Madonna and regard her as a tru icon, I'm not a huge super-fan. Having bought most of her more recent albums, I decided it was time to buy "American Life." I had an idea of what the album was like from hearing samples online, but hearing it right through in one sitting made me love it. Musically, it's quite an experimentation for Madonna, especially considering the albums that preceded it ("Ray of Light" and "Music"). It's a strange, yet completely listenable mix of Folky/Acoustic sounds with cold Electropop. Not two genres one would readily join together, but here it just... works. I bought Madonna's two underrated albums on the same day -"Erotica" and "You Can Dance". I thought that "Erotica" was alot better and as a result, I didn't really play this CD that much. However, now I am addicted to this fantastic remix CD, which faetures mixes of Madonna's best, most loved and most popular hits of the 80s from her first 3 albums. "Spotlight" is a great track, released on no other. "Holiday" has an 12" mix plus a dub mix. The dub mix flows nicely, as the 12" mix was changed only slightly. "Everybody" has a 12" mix, which, again, is very good! "Physical Attraction", besides "Spotlight", is my favourite track on the whole disc aswell as the remix for: "Into The Groove" which is completely original and great!
