In spite of an atrocious version of Oh no not my baby the Manfreds made important music.They would receive publishers demos of all the new Dylan songs becaue Dylan rated them. Doo Wah Diddy Diddy was I suppose the comedy side of a group who had started as The Mann Hugg Blues Brothers but they topped the U S chart with this one and it made more sense than their cover of Maxine Brown's uptown soul song. Spltting into other factions like Paul Jones' solo career the Earth Band and McGuiness Flint made sure that Manfred Mann was never forgotten. tis a great double CD of Manfred mann and Manfred manns earth band. Includes 'Do wah diddy''5,4,3,2,1' and all their hits. The manfred manns earth band CD includes 'blinded by the light' aswell as all their hits. Brilliant!

There is opinion ,that Mick Rogers departure from band made harmfull effect .My opinion is "No,No,No...". The music on this CD is soft.There is more piano and less electric guitars(but still great guitar playing),great vocal harmonies like in Starbird(track number 6). final track "Questions" made out of this world. such great musical harmony too hard to imagine. If you like classical rock buy this one.

Here we have the Earthband hitting Boston for six, recorded for a local radio company this is a prime example of the group live. Blinded by the light riding high in the singles charts and the new album in the top ten.The roaring silence proved to Manfred and the boys that they had cracked America.so if you have any Earthband studio albums and were not lucky enough to see them live ,I recommend this to you its a time capsule of the group at home on stage where they belong. Super.

Three albums mark the zenith of Manfred Mann's career, these being "the Roaring Silence", "Angel Station" and "Watch". These are the post- do-wah-diddy era and all the better for it. I would agree that Chris Thompson is the finest of the Mann vocalists and by some margin. There isn't a duff track on this album and the added bonus tracks at the end are well worth it. This is one of my favourite albums having originally be bought on black vinyl (I've still got it) and living on tape in my car at university in the late 70s / early 80s and for several years afterwards. This is a must-have rock album classic.

This is not elevator music, rather a smooth almost jazz like sound track that catches the mood of London in the late sixties. There is a catchy melody that becomes the theme (sound track or concept album) different songs return to this melody tieing it all together, this is a really good album to mellow out to - years ago I worked in a second hand record shop and every morning I'd put this album on first thing while opening the shop, and I never grew tired of it, there is variation of music styles and although Dennis Waterman graces the cover we are relieved of the agony of hearing him sing - I'll be so good for you!

I saw this band play at the Royal Festival Hall in London. They were the "support" for Roland Kirk, who played the first half - before going on to another gig (Ronnie Scotts?) - the improvisional talents of the band (especially Bernie Livings) were the highlight - I seem to remember a trumpeter in the lineup that was also very impressive. The band played encore after encore and the audience left close to midnight, a rare event for the RFH.

Manfred Mann formed The Earth Band in 1972, but their greatest albums were made between 1973 and 1976 (Solar Fire, The Good Earth, Nightingales & Bombers and The Roaring Silence). In Solar Fire we have the chance to know Manfred Mann at his best in all his faces: - The Composer (Saturn, Lord of The Ring / Mercury, The Winged Messenger); - The Arranger (Father of Day, Father Of Night, a Bob Dylan's song); - The Musician (he plays superbly synthesizer and keyboards); - The Producer (a fantastic sound).
