The previous edition got excellent reviews, and I'm going to start by giving this one the same treatment. When I ordered this, I didn't really think I would enjoy it. But something about is very relaxing and calming, and now there's an extra CD, well, that's just a bonus! As someone who dithered over buying the original, I'm glad I did because now its double value! To the monks - great stuff, a job well done!

My wife (for whom I bought it) says that this CD set is very restful and soothing and I have to say that I quite like to hear the singing in the background whilst I slave away at the computer. And, of course, the great thing is that we got two CDs for about the price of one. Excellent!

I'd heard for a very long time that plainsong / Gregorian chants were supposed to have extremely relaxing qualities, but only very recently bought this CD to see (hear!) for myself. I was extremely impressed - incredibly calming and restful. The pace of this type of music almost seems hard wired into our chill-out zone. I can only say I am very happy indeed with the CD - a pleasure to listen to: breath slowly and regularly and let yourself be calmed

There are two versions of this album, this single disc release and a `special edition' 2CD set. It makes a change to hear a collection of familiar music sung by a baritone rather than the more popular tenor and Bryn fans should be pleased with the selection of music, it's a good range of styles, with the emphasis on classical and opera excerpts plus a few traditional folk style songs. Bryn's voice works well on the opera favourites like Bizet's Toreador song (lots of rolling r's here) and sounds good with Andrea Bocelli on The Pearl Fishers duet `Au Fond du temple saint'. The folk songs and traditional like `Swing Low, Sweet Chariot' and `Danny Boy' are well suited to the deep baritone voice, and the `Ave Maria' duet with ... Read More:

Great hymns, great choir, great singing. Why not 5 stars? Well, I feel that towards the beginning of this disc there are moments when the performance is somewhat wooden. I don't know if it's beacuse of the grandness of the choir and the abbey or if it's because you couldn't hear the choirboys (later in the disc you can hear them and it is pure grace), but it is only forever so slightly marred by that.

This was pianist Thelonious Monk's first album for the Columbia label; it was made between October 31st and November 6th in '62. 'Body And Soul' and 'Just A Gigolo' are unaccompanied piano solos by Monk. The remainder of the tracks feature him in a quartet with Charlie Rouse (tenor sax), John Ore (bass) and Frankie Dunlop (drums). Rouse sounds a bit relentless at times, but never quite monotonous. Dunlop's bouncy drumming is a joy to listen to, and Monk himself is on good quirky form. These are studio recordings, the sound quality is excellent and the playing time is 73 minutes. A very attractive item - bewitching even.
