Music : Uncle Meat
This is a mixture of music recorded live and(mostly)in the studio in New York in 1967.The MOI are now in their prime, and the range of styles they play is amazing-remember though,as FZ points out,"This is basically an instrumental album".
Highlights?"King Kong"in all it's majesty, the weird, almost chamber music sound of "Dog Breath Variations",the wonderfully silly vocals of "The Air",Suzy Creamcheese pointing out the risks of the rock lifestyle when it comes to groupies-"We had fleas and lots of crabs, and proceeded to give them to everyone in Laurel Canyon"-,FZ playing aoucustic guitar(a rarity indeed)Ian Underwood whipping it out in Copenhagen, there's something for all the family in this album.
However, there's also a second disc ... Read More:

Let's be plain about this, if you don't know the music of Frank Zappa but are somehow intrigued and want to know more, you should start with 'Apostrophe' or maybe 'Hot Rats'.

If however, you know a little Zappa and want to find out about his roots then here's a good place to start. This album is quite different from all the stuff that came after. The reason for this is that there's some pretty personal stuff on here. On subsequent releases he developed a sort of highly articulate barrier based on a number of techniques. In matters of a personal nature he later directed his attentions to other groups of people and manufactured the kind of 'Frank' he wanted people to see. In short, after this album he was totally in control. He was the 'Central ... Read More:

The swift single-album follow-up to Freak Out, setting the pace for FZ releases which has barely faltered to this day (the latest being the long-awaited "Trance-Fusion", released in October 2006), almost thirteen years after his death. More difficult to define than its predecessor, Absolutely Free is a curious mix of short "teen" vocal numbers touching on subjects ranging from high-school sensibilities to the commercialisation of Christmas, alongside several extended pieces of improvisation. It kicks off with the brilliant Plastic People, a spiteful put-down of an apathetic and robotic public-at-large. It's a shame no punk band ever covered that song. A Sex Pistols version would have been very interesting. Then we have the "Duke" trilogy, tracks 2, 3 and 4, originally ... Read More:

5.Weasels Ripped My Flesh by: Frank, Mothers of Invention
May 01, 1995
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Music : Weasels Ripped My Flesh
Released after the separation of the Mothers of Invention, Weasels Ripped My Flesh acts as a sort of sequel (or "phase two) of Burnt Weeny Sandwich. And whilst Burnt Weeny Sandwich has more of a rigid, planned feel to its songs, Weasels captures the groups hectic live performances and their avant-garde free-jazz improvisation.

The album starts off with "Didja Get Any Onya?", a live track which, at first, may sound to you like a bunch of aimless, unnecessary instrumental masturbation ("jamming," I believe it's call) until after a few listens you begin to detect the bizarre song structure. "Didja Get Any Onja?" also contains the track "Charles Ives," which I presume begins at the 2 minute mark with the faux-Deutsch vocals, as well as "The Jelly" which begins around 3 ... Read More:

10.Cruising with Ruben & the Jets [CASSETTE] by: The Mothers of Invention
October 17, 1990
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Music : Cruising with Ruben & the Jets [CASSETTE]
The original recording of Ruben and the Jets is one of the best ever Zappa albums, even though he might not have cared for that judgement, after all, he was trying to take the piss. Nevertheless it is genius. Then he mixed modern bass and efects on it AND COMPLETELY RUINED THE SOUND. What was he thinking? Zappa mixed the BEST SOUNDING albums while others failed miserably, and then he went and did this. Do not buy the re-mixed CD, look for the original. At least listen to the original before deciding to buy this CD.
