Ive been a fan of the Crue for just over 4 years now and in my opinion the albums they made in the 80s are some of the best rock albums ever recorded. During the 90s their albums got a bit more experimental and the songs they were writing just werent up to the stantard of their earlier work. So after I had heard 2 new songs, 'if I die tomorrow' and 'sick love song' a couple of years ago I was praying that they would release a new album. That album turned out to be S.O.L.A, with James Michael and DJ Ashba handling production I knew that the album would sound amazing. Each song is 100% crue at its best; Mick Mars blasts out some of the best rock riffs ive heard in a long time, and Vince Neils voice hasnt sounded this good since Dr. Feelgood. All ... Read More:

I am a Crue fan from the early days. I am old enough to count myself lucky i saw Crue, LA Guns, Faster Pussycat when the 80's were the Rock Decade. This album, made me glad i missed this tour. Dr Feelgood the track, is outstanding, all swagger and pounding bass and drums. Vince is on fire with the lyrics and Mick's guitar is Glam riffing alles uber. Then it starts to slide and never quite recovers;

Slice of your pie? Please, its almost cringeworthy how the lyrics play out. I was ashamed that Sixx, Mars, Neil and Lee came up with such rubbish. The Crue of old was a sleazy, leecherous leather clad rocker; not a dirty old man in a mac.

Without You is terrible, cliched and worn out. Kickstart my Heart attempts to do ... Read More:

"Plug me in I'm alive tonight, out on the streets again!"

Every track on this album made you feel you were part of the LA scene; staggering from the Roxy to the Whiskey. Not a duff track as Vince, Mick, Tom and Nikki show you what glam rock is all about. I was young and impressionable, listening to Def Leppard, Hanoi Rocks and Dogs D'amour when this thing hit my local record shop. £££ later it was screamin' through my speakers....

Live Wire tore open a hundred mile an hour burst of music that wrecked my room, Piece Of Your Action saw me crooning into the mirror, my hair teased up like a cheap tart on Hollywood and Vine. Suddenly Rock was fun again, with a sleazy undertone that made you a sex god!

Mick Mars voicechanger kicks off the album, promising devilish Rock and Roll, and it doesnt disappoint! Shout At The Devil is a rousing, kick ass track that pounds away at your head till your singing along throwing sixes in the air! Looks That Kill follows in the non-stop bangin' and thrashin', the song about all your ex's that you ever had.

Bastard is a hate filled rant against an old and beaten adversary, Helter Skelter the Beatles tune made evil by an injection of pure Motley. Red Hot is just that, molten music poured into vinyl. Too Young To Fall In Love was a live favourite, catchy chorus and a cool video to promote it.

Knock 'Em Dead Kid is brilliant, a middle finger to all that try and put you down. 10 Seconds ... Read More:

Motley Crue are one of those bands that will always be remembered. With brilliant heavy metal tracks like Girls Girls Girls, it's no wonder. The style, the glam, the sex, the drugs...that's all part of them and they're definatley in league with other classics like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Def Leppard and Motorhead.

This was the tour that never was, excuses like snow on the roof, missing band members, look-a-likes posing as Nikki Sixx. It all started the rapid downfall of the band. Wild Side fires up the engine, and a great job it does too. All strut and sex, the band sounding amazing and really punching above their weight. The title track follows, still strong but lacking the power of Wild Side. Too long spent listing the various cat houses and not enough lyrical content spoil it for me.

Dancing On Glass, suprise suprise, is about Nikki's drugs problem, and the song is a belter. Its also the last really decent track on the album. Bad Boy Boogie is as cliched as it sounds, Five Years Dead is a little better but still way below par for what these guys were ... Read More:

This is obviously the budget version of the full 2-disc edition, and they've basically ditched the rubbish tracks. All the real best tracks are on here ('Dr Feelgood', 'Black Widow', 'Shout At The Devil', 'Too Young To Fall In Love'), and the crap ones (like the happy-clappy 'Same Ol' Situation' and the god-awful cover of 'Smokin' In The Boys Room') are gone. Unfortunately so is the excellent 'Use It Or Lose It' and the rare 'Enslaved', but you can't win 'em all. Worth the price of admission just for awesome new tracks 'If I Die Tomorrow' and 'Sick Love Song'. Along with 'First Band On The Moon' from 'New Tattoo' these are the ... Read More:

When the best song on an album is a reasonably good cover of a mediocre bubblegum pop song (Smokin' in the Boys Room), then you know it's not going to be a classic.

Following the excellent first two albums, Too Fast For Love and Shout at the Devil, Crue take a serious nose dive with this lame effort. It was reasonably well received at the time, and the live shows were excellent but this is a real blot on the Crue landscape.

It is, and always was, cheap throw-away big hair pop-rock, as churned out by many bands at this time. Crue had been different to the others up to this point, they had something the others didn't, an attitude and an edge that shows up on the first two releases, but is all but gone on this one.

As the previous reviewers have stated the music comes from the classic Crue era - there are very few, if any, bands who have produced music this good. However, this may seem pedantic, but I find the cover & title of this collection in extremely bad taste. Vince Neil, while full of alcohol, crashed his car killing Razzle ( Hanoi Rocks drummer )and he subsequently was prosecuted for the offence. The band, Hanoi Rocks not Crue, were on the verge of mega stardom in the US - it was felt that Guns N Roses filled the gap left by them and gained the status that they were due. The title trivialises this event - even worse shows no remorse for the death of a friend.

I do not look forward to subsequent volumes of this compliation as their best work is here and quality ... Read More:
