I'll admit that I'm not the biggest Motorhead fan but after hearing 'the thousand names of god' on Planetrock I decided to buy the album and am I glad I did. Motorizer is brilliant, not a duff track to be found and with every listen (and there have been plenty) is gets better and better, in fact it is getting more playing time than Metallica's latest offering!!

So my simple recommendation is BUY IT NOW, you will not regret it.

If you are new to Motorhead, try and imagine a world with just the rumbling, dirt-encrusted, speed-freaked 'Motorhead' album on the Chiswick Records label; and then this one is released and you drop your stylus into the groove to hear this album for the very first time, and then, from the fabulous title track onwards, you will realise why Motorhead are the legends they are still today.
This album is power.
This album is the one which a million speed-metal bands were influenced by and took to playing in a band themselves.
This album is the die from which they all, including Metallica, were cast.
This album simply rips your head off and does a great big-jobby down the stump whether you want it to or not.
This album is the ... Read More:

I loved this one when it came out, but listening to it again 20+ years later, I think there are quite a lot of fillers on it. It certainly does not compare to Overkill (the one before) or Ace of Spades (the one after), nor to some of their later works. If you want the whole collection, then buy it, but if you just want a few Motorhead cds in your collection, there are better ones out there.

The best thing about this box set is the wealth of material from later in the career. Everyone rants and raves about the period from Overkill - Ace of Spades... but haven't you ever noticed that all the songs are boring and sound the same? Motorhead found diversity with Phil Campbell, and not before. Early Motorhead is exceptionally boring to listen to. Lemmy will be the first to tell you that. Albums such as "1916", "March Or Die", "Snakebite Love", "Sacrifice", "Hammered" and "Inferno" are infinitely superior. And there's more material here from the truely finest period of Motorhead's career than from the mundane early part. Essential purchase.

Indeed, they have changed the cover photo, but that's for those listening in braile. The knockout thing about this 'bonus re-issue' is it's everything The Who's 'Live At Leeds' re-issue/expanded CD wasn't. Live albums, especially benchmark live albums like 'NSTH' and 'Live At Leeds' need to be re-issued in their orginal form AND THEN have the bonus cuts afterwards or on a 2nd CD. 'Live At Leeds' was simply re-issued as the original gig was played. Whilst this was all fine and dandy, WE WERE USED TO THE ORIGINAL, AND IT WAS MOST FAMOUS AS IT WAS, so the old saying of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" was obviously in Sanctaury's mind when they put this together, because you have THE ORGINAL TRACKS AS WAS, plus the bonus cuts / out-takes after THE BIT THAT'S MOST FAMOUS. ... Must have had a few re-issues with the same sleeve cover (?) as mine's from Disky in Holland without any Ted Carroll sleeve notes, in fact, no sleeve notes whatsoever. With the DVD's covering Motorhead's career doing the rounds, an interview with Ted Carroll and Roger Armstrong at Chiswick would be a great addition!
But if this statement by a fellow reviewer below, (or above?), about Ted's sleeve notes is true, then I can't understand why he would have written them for this release? Here we have another pressing of the EMI owned tracks viz the 'On Parole' album plus 'The Dave Edmunds' Mixes,' issued in the UK as 'On Parole Remastered;' so the album has nothing in common with Ted or Chiswick whatsoever. But if you're up for another version of this seminal Motorhead album ... Read More:

I discovered Motorhead whilst still at school, back when 'Overkill' came out, saw them on the 'Bomber' tour , met the band when they visited Aberdeen's then legendary 'Other Record Shop' in 1980 for the 'Ace Up Your Sleeve' tour. These were in the days where one played Space Invaders (an early form of video game), and hung about record shops at weekends, so it was always great to meet your favourite bands in such a place. I went to the succeeding " Iron Fist" and " Another Perfect Tour" in 1982 and 1983 respectively when they were going from the Fast Eddie Clarke era to the Brian Robertson era- not my favourite period , but I was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt as I was a fan of Thin Lizzy too.
Oh , and I remember seeing them in Glasgow in 1984 when Phil Campbell ... Read More:

Finally, we can throw those well-worn cassettes away, (if indeed we were lucky enough to have all of them?), even though we spent hours waiting for these sessions to be broadcast. The ace up the sleeve was the Kid Jensen tracks, as no fan I have ever met knew they were recorded, let alone broadcast. Some have mentioned the sound quality not being too good on some tracks, but with these being BBC recordings, they must be the best we can get, and far superior to those aforementioned cassettes. Yes, a wide span of years featuring Motorhead at the Beeb, and we should cherish them as most of the DJ's the sessions were recorded for are no longer around, or not with the Corporation any longer. But Jo Whiley has her 'Live Lounge,' so maybe she will invite Motorhead in at some point, (yeah, right!). ... Read More:

9.1916 by: Motorhead

Music : 1916
Ah yes, 1916 widely recognised as a damn fine Motörhead album and a terrible year for war. One could of perhaps feared that 1916 would be a bit of a sell-out, all the signs indicated that; Lemmy moves to LA and the band to a major label.....could we expect power ballads and Tawny Kitaen? Well no, although 1916 was a bit of a departure from the tried and tested Motörhead sound in places (which frankly was needed after the stagnant `Rock and Roll') it still rocks like a b*stard.

1916 finds Motörhead in a experimental mood but unlike previous experimentation's (on the `Bomber' album for instance) 1916's quirks and experimentations don't sound contrived or as some of the experiments on `Bomber' did, just plain bad. No, as it turns out `Nightmare/The Dreamtime' and `Love Me Forever' ... Read More:

1983 was quite a bizarre year for two of the giants of hard rock and heavy metal namely Black Sabbath and Motörhead both experiencing very strange line ups in a one album situation what with Gillan joining Sabbath and erstwhile Thin Lizzy guitarist Brian `Robbo' Robertson replacing `Fast' Eddie Clarke.

Musically this album is a departure from the sound of the `Fast' Eddie albums which truth be told had become a little stale by the time of `Iron Fist' which although quite good wasn't up to the standard of the previous three classic albums. This can be put down to the more melodic sensibilities of Robbo's guitar playing but this is still a loud and fast rock `n' roll album, Motörhead haven't suddenly turned into Opeth, don't worry. Even if you don't like the change in direction surely ... Read More:
