The move was only around for a short period during that time they had many line up changes and morphed into the electric light orchestra.
This thoughtfully put together Anthology takes you from the first demos (You're The One I Need) by the move, Mod classics through to the final single `California Man'
The first disc covers the original line up Ace Kefford, Bev Bevan, Carl Wayne, Trevor Burton and Roy Wood, and includes `Night of Fear' `Fire Brigade' and `Flowers in the Rain' plus a host of songs from the first album.

One of the more important bands of their time and in Roy Wood probably the most unheralded and under appreciated talent of his era. This was a further development of some of the ideas from Shazam, at least as far as tracks like 'Hello Suzie' are concerned.

It was largely ignored because of the record labels focus of attention on label mates T Rex and perhaps by the band because they wanted to get on with ELO. How does it stand up on its own? In my book very well. This is probably the heaviest album The Move ever did, with tracks like 'Turkish Tram Conductor Blues', 'Brontosaurus', 'When Alice Comes Back to the Farm' and the title track (very Black Sabbath a la Ozzy vocals by Roy Wood).

Is it a bit overlong and overpomped ... Read More:

Not a lot to add to the other reviews here - this is a superb album; a real labour of love The remastering is excellent and allows us to appreciate what a forgotten group The Move were.

The tracks cover some really different styles and are quite wacky (silly accents and mad instruments) but my wife keeps saying "I didn't know that they did this one: I love this" and my 2 and 6 year old kids love it and sing along to every tune!

Great stuff and a great price for a double CD - if you have an interest in ELO or the Birmingham 60's sound then this is for you and holds up better than many a Stones or Kinks album form the same era. Recommended.

If it was not for the bonus tracks this would only get two stars. The first six tracks were the original album, though they do show Carl Wayne to have been an excellent vocalist especially on "the last thing on my mind" the Album lacked a good producer and contains some rather self indulgent, desperate music. Amen Corner showed what Hello Susie should have been like. Cherry Blossom Clinic Revisited shows how desperate the band were to fill the album, hence the self indulgent instrumentals added to the end of this track and Fields of People, which at over ten minutes is a good six minutes too long. Dont make my baby blue and the last thing on my mind are both over six minutes long, presumably stretched to fill the album.
According to the albums booklet "Shazam" ... Read More:

If I could pass laws. I'd pass a law that prohibits musicians from designing their own album covers unless they could produce compelling evidence to the contrary. But, that aside: lets look at the music. Some could argue that this album sits uncomfortably between the gravitas of prog-rock and the trivia of superficial pop . Bollocks. This album is a period classic, combining the urge to experiment, tempered by solid, and unashamedly, pop sensibilities.

Music : The Very Best of the Move
This group, from Birmingham in England, was formed in 1965 and proved to be very successful for a few years, scoring ten UK hits between 1967 and 1972, seven of which made the top ten with two others only just missing. Problems within the group caused it to disband, but three of its members regrouped to form the Electric Light Orchestra, though this group soon hit problems and about half its members split to form Wizzard. The Move were, in some ways, a typical late sixties rock group (albeit with a distinctive identity), very far removed from the glam-rock of Wizzard or the unique sound of ELO.

This compilation focuses exclusively on the music of the Move up to 1970 (when they were subsidiaries of the Decca label), though if you look up Roy Wood, you'll find other compilations ... Read More:
