Music : Cave [CD 1]
I wonder if Matt Bellamy has a thing about fire, considering the burning content of Cave and Sunburn. But then again, who cares? If it keeps him churning out these scarily intense and fantastic songs then 'burn baby burn'.
Maybe not one of the best songs on the album. It nevertheless has yet more memorable lyrics, including the opening 'Leave me alone it's nothing serious. I'll do it myself it's got nothing to do with you and there's nothing that you can do'. I can't help wondering who he's singing about that makes him this angry. Well, I know one thing, if this is what it does to you, I wanna go in his cave.

Music : The Curse
Excellent, now very rare, live album from this unique 80a/90s indie band, which featured Kristin Hersh on vocals and guitar.

There's a real vitality about the recording, and if you're a Kristin Hersh fan and want to delve into teh back catalogue this is a very good place to start.

96.House Tornado [CASSETTE] by: Throwing Muses

Music : House Tornado [CASSETTE]
House Tornado was the strongest release of the early part of Throwing Muses career- advancing on the brilliant eponymous debut. As with the CD-version of The Pixies Surfer Rosa, this cd issue comes with a bonus mini-LP- in the form of The Fat Skier.

Tanya Donelly is advancing as a songwriter here- River is as good as the brilliant Green from the debut & her other track Giant sounds like the Go Betweens playing a Belly song. Kristin Hersh dominates for the most part- Juno, Colder, Drive, Mexican Woman & Walking in the Dark as good as it gets. This is an album to get lost in- & was not topped by the following releases, which contained some great songs- but were more commercial (see Hunkpapa, The Real Ramona). The Fat Skier ... Read More:

98.Showbiz by: Muse

Music : Showbiz
Despite the recent explosion of dancerock from the UK, Muse is perhaps the most powerful Britpop band to emerge in years. If you want comparisons, they're equal parts Radiohead and Led Zeppelin, with a unique sound that is both melodic and raw. Few debuts are as intense as Muse's "Showbiz."

A steady piano melody ripples by, followed by some steady drumming. That, in turn, segues into the expansive bombastic rock'n'roll of "Sunburn." Matt Bellamy sits in the middle of the song, singing in a trembly voice, "I'll feel/A guilty conscience grow/And I'll feel/A guilty conscience grow." Then he bursts into an anguished howl: "And I'll hide from the world/Behind a broken frame/And I'll run forever/I can't face the shame..." The music crests with ... Read More:

Music : Showbiz [CASSETTE]
Just check out the clean guzzling bass line on Muscle Museum. The song sets up the perfect suburbian distopia and turns into nothing short of the perfect pop rock single when Matt's voice melts into a suspended guitar solo.

Elsewhere theres the title track Showbiz, an epic of enclosing tension and Cave a similar epic flooding with teenage anxt.

The back end of this record reveals more wonderfully rounded heavy yet alternative rock songs. The lyrics are spot on all the way through especially in Escape and Overdue.

Theres a lush little acoustic ballad too in Unintended, so good they still sing it on tour.

This is where Muse started off, with a CD just as good as all the others, sure the songs might not ... Read More:
