Music : The Real Ramona
There's a hook in Kristin Hersh's head, several actually. Pop hooks, industrial strength. The songs in TRR are so hooky and memorable that they'll make you wonder if this is the same band we listened to in their 1986 debut. The songs are drenched in melody and dreamy shimmer yet also in nightmarish glimmer. Tanya's songs are her absolute best while Hersh also steps up her pop know how. The vocal harmonies reach celestial heights. TRR is a delight, not at all lightweight but their most accessible.

This is a lot different to what they're done before. It's not the useal greyish raw emotion muse have (this isn't a bad thing i love muse!) Instead they've funked it up a bit. It's gives the song a sleazy feel to it. But you can still hear muse's useual style shineing through. It's a great song don't get me wrong! but it's definatly a grower. First time i heard it i thought it was alrite, but after around 3 or 4 listens i love it! So don't poo poo it at first, give it a chance. If you're a muse fan like me, it'll at first feel like being a fish out of water, but then you'll devolop lungs and feet!

You couldn't call me a fan of Muse. Because I'm not - watching them at Glastonbury a few years ago and hearing most of the records at places I frequent or appear in has not enamoured me to the three-piece who I was baffled to find huge. I must admit they were a decent live act, had the odd delightful riff and lots of attractive females seem to dig them. But essentially I had missed the Muse-boat and was left behind muttering about Stevie Vai and the Smashing Pumpkins.

But this single is something else, as is the hallucinatory promo video - the song has been compared amusingly to Britney Spears, but really sounds like the Neptunes working over Ministry. This is probably the direction Primal Scream should have pursued instead of their ... Read More:

This is not their best album, worth listening to, definitely. I would urge you to buy it but if it's a choice of different muse albums go for Black Holes and Revelations. Very good lyrics and the songwriting is upto scratch as usual. Still very good.

Their heaviest album to date which means you won't find any Bright Yellow Guns, Firepiles or even Ruthie's Knockings amongst this bunch but it's still a pleaser. Half Blast is the main attraction here and Tanya on backing vocals, even for 5 of the songs is very welcome.

Highlight: Half Blast

The band's most erratic release to date and their weakest to date. Some songs are brilliant (Bea, Dragonhead, Mania) but overall, the album is uneven and can't decide what kind of album it wants to be and so opts for different angles but most of the songs just aren't particularly great.

Another fine album. Alongside The Real Ramona, their most pop-orientated album.
