A good mix of songs and styles. This is more backing track than Karaoke so it wouldn't be suitable for a complete beginner as it sometimes takes some working out to find out where to sing. The lyrics leaflet is in very tiny print and in blue so not easy to read. The sound is good, though, and matches the original tracks quite well. There is no guide tune given - just the backing vocals (which I like but it doesn't suit everyone). I have only used one track thoroughly so far (Walking in the air) and have found that, though the printed words match the original in terms of where to sing and where to take a break, the backing track doesn't!! Years before Gosford Park brought Ivor Novello's works to the mass public of today, I had a 1959 HMV LP entitled "Ivor Novello - His Greatest Songs". HIS GREATEST SONGS The quality of that album, owned by EMI, is far superior to these later recordings of 1961 & 1975. However, at the end of this CD are some bonus tracks which make the purchase worthwhile. The incredibly stirring 'Rose of England' as sung by Ivor Emmanuel is worth the price of this CD alone. This track was taken from the HMV LP mentioned before. If only EMI would release the HMV LP in full, instead of these poorer compilations.

Ever since i was introduced to Classical music by my father at home and in music class at school i have appreciated the classics ability to soothe the mind, to be able to sink back and allow the mind to be massaged through the ears so as to be able to forget much of what troubles us, and Radio FM have again provided me with a beautiful continuity of music on these CDs to do just that. This CD falls into two parts. The first 6 tracks are excerpts from "Glamorous Night" and the next 6 from "Careless Rapture". I found this half of the CD no more than adequate. The second half of the CD, tracks 13-21, are listed as 'Bonus Tracks", and are from 4 other shows. These tracks are in a different class, and I would be happy to have the CD for these alone. Tracks 13-17 feature Moira Anderson (not 'Sanderson' as listed on Amazon!) in some very pleasant Peter Hope arrangements, played sensitively by Robin Stapleton & his Orchestra. The final 4 tracks principally feature Vanessa Lee and, although I suspect that they were made towards the end of her career (1958/9), the singing is beautiful. An interesting mix of songs.....it's almost like this compilation of Kiri's repertoire come as two separate albums. The classics comprise the first half and the second half contains the more contemporary favorites of Kiri. You can collect some CDs of all artists and some you can be satisfied with just one.
