'All The Right Reasons' was Nickelback putting one foot firmly in 'classic rock' territory. This album takes the trend further, at times overstepping the mark entirely. Some of these songs sound like pastiche - think Wolfmother, but not as good. Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, AC/DC... you could probably find a pretty big nod to any of those and more in a song on 'Dark Horse'. It's not bad, but it doesn't sound like Nickelback.
I think the thing that grates on me the most is the lack of subtlety in some of the songs - one look at the song titles and you can pretty much guess where Chad's thought were when writing ('Yes, sex is always the answer, it's never a question 'cos the answer's yes...' Shame really since the song has a good riff). At least ... Read More:

I once saw an interview where Chad Kroeger said he asked fans what made How You Remind Me work. People said the chorus, the catchy riffs etc. So basically that's what the man cares about which disheartens me. I bought The Long Road and I really like Someday, but on every album they make 3 or 4 singles and the rest appears to be just filler, something to pad it out to called it an album. Hopefully Nickelback realise their sell out status and make music for the right reasons, as the album title misleads.

Oh no i'm in a state of high dudgeon, despair and dysphoria as this grandiose drivel cuts through my ear drums. Its quite possible that this is the most disturbing example of music as commerce i have ever heard. Chad Kroeger is an avaricious money mad pirate who specialises in tawdry, inept riffs and stultifying hooks that serve no purpose other than to extort money out of jocks and other asinine consumers. If you want truly profound, intuitive songwritng then avoid the music of this banal incubus while you still have the ability to feel!

A brilliant collection of lovely videos. Its a real shame the opening screen is backed by the rockstar song. It's true what they say, when it comes to Nickleback, that the worse the song the more popular it is. Why could it not be one of the others? A great DVD, with a video I hadn't even seen.

Really lovely present for me. Go on... treat yourself. :-)

First off, The State is the second best album by Nickelback(slightly inferior to Curb). Worthy to say is definitely the best song here, I've tried but find it difficult to find comparisons for this song.
Not Leavin' Yet is great and can be compared to Where do I hide. Cowboy Hat also is a great song musically and lyrically, perhaps the best lyrically. (no comparisons have been found.) Leader of Men is the biggest hit and reminds me a great deal of Nirvana's Come as you are.
There is no one clear comparison for the state though perhaps the best is The Long Road
enjoy

Nickelback- The long road

With Nickelback in the charts at the moment with their number 3 single Rockstar, many people that like rock will have heard of them. However, the album- The long road is completely different, the first track, Flat on the floor is extremely fast paced and much more intense than some of their later singles (How you remind me and Rockstar).

This album is more heavy rock and grunge than other things in the charts at the moment. This is great if you would like rock to take over the charts once again. Warning! This is not a ¡¥feel good¡¦ album- it contains subjects of dark matter. E.g.

The return of Nickelback after the seven times platinum release "All the Right Reasons" has almost been overshadowed by the return to rock of Robert John "Mutt" Lange after his lengthy country / pop crossover with ex Shania Twain.

You'd have thought that after the ludicrous and belated success of 'Rockstar' that Nickelback might have been tempted to try for more of the same, but the much maligned ones are having none of that, as they turn out a tune that would have fitted on any of their previous releases, and bar some clunky keyboard riffs makes you wonder why they bothered with Mutt.

It's by the book Nickelback and doesn't deviate one iota from the sound so beloved by millions. Hell, AC/DC have been making the same album for hundreds of years, why not Nickelback. ... Read More:

This is a must-have for any Nickelback fans who have been disappointed with their latest 'All the Right Reasons' but love the other stuff. It takes the band back to their roots and uncovers a different side of their musical abilities.

I bought this album having already owned Silver Side Up and Long Road for a while. It surprised me at first - it is hugely different to anything else they've done, with a raw, grungey sound and vocals that sound like Chad didn't really know what he was doing. The songs seemed rather disjointed and improvised at first, but after a few listens I saw the intricate quality of the album. The songs show great originality and passion, and certain numbers grow on you fast, especially ones like 'Where' 'Curb' and 'Fly'. ... Read More:

This is my first foray into Nickelback, on recommendation from my son. The more I listen to this album, the more I like it, and having the DVD was a real bonus - the videos really bring the tracks alive.
There isn't a bad track on the album, they are all good, but I probably listen to Photograph and Rockstar the most.
Nickelback really know how to work a crowd, and show great appreciation of their fans (unlike some bands). Their music has a real 'feelgood' factor to it, and they sing about things that you can easily relate to.
The main thing is - it's FUN. Play it with friends or on your own, but play it LOUD!
Definitely recommended, whether you're 18 (like my son) or 50 (like me). This is one of the very few albums that I can play with him in the car and we both enjoy it. So what ... Read More:
