As an avid collector of the Good times albums, I was abit worried about how the series was beggining to decline in terms of track selection quality. Volume 7 was very poor, and so I expected this to be even worse, but to my delight it wasn't.

As this is now volume 8, there can be only so many great tracks that Norman can share with us, but for this CD he has dug deep and found 24 more to keep us going for another year.

It's not as great as the earlier editions, but it's still a good CD, and well worth having in your collection!

Wow, Norman and his team have done it again !! I shouldn't be surprised because volumes 1 to 5 are equally wonderful. As ever Good Times is a journey through all types of music, but whatever the genre the tracks are top drawer !! Personal favourites on GT6 are the awesome soulful house of Poor People, the 80's latin classic from Willie Colon and the sheer quality of the Tortured Soul cut. But having said that almost all of the 31 tracks are wonderful in their own right (sorry Light Flight may need a few more listens). Just buy it and enjoy, it's what your ears were invented for.

Norman Jay MBE returns again at the helm of a two cd collection of records under the 'Good Times' banner, this time accompanied with the legend 'Let the Good Times Roll'. The questions is, after six previous editions and prior to the release of a later specifically themed edition ('Good Times London'), are the 'Good Times' still as enjoyable as ever?

The collection opens with the dark tinged 'Let It Roll', which was playing constantly during 1990 as the short lived genre of Hip House began to run out of creative steam. It might once have been considered essential fare but it isn't perhaps the best opener to a collection such as this - and it isn't because the genre didn't have better records available to choose from (The Richie Rich ... Ok I didnt know a lot on this album, and actually quite a bit of it is not my cup of tea, BUT, this is worth the buy for Jean Carn and The Jones Girls alone (CD2). These are both classics that I have sought for years and have seen nowhere else. Worth it just for these two

I bought this album on the back of hearing the 'Good Times 4' Cd from the same stable and was equally impressed. From the funk-soul-tastic opening of 'Bourgie Bourgie' from Gladys Knight onwards this compilation takes you through a cool, funky journey to soundtrack summer partying. I'm not a huge follower of the genre so knew very little about a lot of the artists featured (mostly from the seventies) - but i now have a massive amount of respect for the Jay duo and their record collection - and more importantly their ability to pick such choice soul cuts and create a record with a real unique flavour. It's a quality album - one to bring out at those summer evening parties.

The 'Good Times' sound system and Norman Jay will probably be familiar to you if you have searched Amazon specifically for this title, and if that is indeed the case I suspect that the associations this music may hold will be enough to commend it to you.

But if not, and this is to be your first engagement with the 'Good Times' series, what are you to expect?

Given the obvious and natural associations with London's Notting Hill Carnival you will undoutedly expect to hear music drawn from Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, House and Reggae, with a few bits thrown in which draw from these varied musical traditions. And that is exactly what Norman and Joey serve up with this volume, the third in the 'Good Times' series.

until I bought this for a CD copy of the Wilton Place Street Band's Disco Lucy. I knew it had been Norman's theme tune for many years but didn't realise he was going to talk all over it. A huge dissapointment as far as I'm concerned !
