If you've heard them before I don't need to explain why. If you haven't, I can't. Orchestra Baobab is an experience one has to take on ones own. You would think that a bunch of such armature but talented musicians would not be able to go beyond the boundaries of their own town. But here comes the exception, and what an exception it is. Their music is so intoxicating that `professionalism' becomes a dirty word. If you also saw them live you would know what I mean.
The first two recordings made them world famous. Now comes the third recording of a completely new material, and with much more complex arrangement. Barthelemy Attisso's, who is my favourite member of the band, guitar playing is more confident, experiments more and the whole ensemble ... Read More:

My favourite has to be the fourth track with it´s flowing trumpet and driving guitar, I love the bassy solo.
Things cool off a little bit on the second CD but the group showcase their more subtle side.
This is a record to uplift you and an ... Read More:

I discovered this by accident when using a cybercafe in Bath. I asked the bloke behind the counter about it and he offered to burn a CD of it for me.

I did the honest thing and bought it but it shows how, once you've heard this, you'll want to share it with everyone.

Why? Because it calms you after a bad day, makes you smile and want to dance.

Music : Pirates Choice
When that horrible term "World Music" first came to prominance this was one of the big popular items, and here it is back on CD.

The orchestra are a Senegalese outfit who play African music with a cuban feel. They Rhumba gently and gently uplift you. (Sounds more like a plug for a bra than a band!)

The album is called Pirates Choice because this stuff was so popular when it came out that it was ripped of right and left.

This is a very welcome re-release for anyone who likes their African music to swing.
