I own the film soundtrack and this original cast recording version. I've seen the show 4 times now and this CD brings back the memories; the Overture does give you goose bumps and from this recording you get the flavour of the theatre experience. When sung well, as they are in this case, 'Music of the Night' and 'All I Ask of You' are very moving. Sarah Brightman is the star of the original show as her voice is truly moving. I've always been skeptical about Michael Crawford, although his signing is excellent, I don't think brings the true gravitas of the character of the Phantom all that well. never ever liked abba 30 years on i still can't stand them now this ******* film has regurgatated their dire music once again ..mamma mia!!!!! i would nt give it any star ratings but it was the only way to move on mamma mia!!!!

If you've got to this page, then chances are you've heard of Les Miserables and if you're a wise person indeed then you will have gone to see it in London or on Broadway. This CD is the original cast recording and has excellent vocal work from household names Colm Wilkinson, Michael Ball and rather bizarrely Caroline Quentin of Men Behaving Badly fame. This CD however is no replacement for seeing the musical live - it misses out pieces of linking material. This means that if you are listening to this as a substitute for seeing the musical, you may become confused by the jumpy plot. I live in the U.S., and have not been able to see the show, but I'm a big Ruthie Henshall fan, so have read a lot about it and have heard clips of a few songs. The music is beautiful, and the songs are heart-wrenching. It's especially helpful to have the printed lyrics, to understand what's going on and the emotion behind it. I love it!

Blood Brothers, the ledgendary musical by Willy Russell. This is the first CD from the show which features the original cast including Barbara Dickson. Since this version was released the show has evolved into something quite different. So if you are looking for something which resembles the show in its current state then this probably isnt the CD for you. However if you are a traditionalist then it may just well be. The other thing which lets this version down is the lack of any of the speech. The CD is literally just the singing where as later versions (Kiki Dee, Stephanie Lawrence and Petula Clark) all have some of the speaking parts which make them easier to follow. Having seen the original show with Jonathan Pryce and Lea Salonga, I also saw it a year later when the understudy was playing Kim and was not disappointed. All those years ago I brought my 5 year old up with the soundtrack and always promised her that if it came back to the stage I would take her. Now she is 15 and I was able to keep my promise at the Milton Keynes venue of the current tour and she was absolutely blown away. Jonathan Pryce was fab as the engineer in the original show, and I'm glad I saw him in that part, but the current cast, although doing a variation of the original is certainly not a disappointment. I have to admit I wasn't expecting to enjoy Anything Goes when I went to see it in London a few months back. But not only did I enjoy it but it prompted a return visit the other day, which is when I got a copy of the CD. The tunes are catchy & the cast exceptionally good..not a weak link in the chain. This cast recording captures the spirit of the show. It's a recording which you could enjoy without having seen the show on stage. Well recommended.

Whether you approved of Andrew Lloyd Webber's drastic revisions to Starlight Express in the early 90s or - like me - thought that the magic somehow got lost, a new Starlight Express album does not come along that often. So what's it like? Yes it's polished, yes it's (on the whole) well sung, but ultimately it's a dodo. The main problem with this recording, just as with the revised version of the show itself, is with the voice of Control. An annoying, intrusive and clammering fake child's fake American accent wrecks the best sections of the album just as it did on stage. Some of the best songs, notably Rolling Stock and Right Place, Right Time, have been subjected to harsh edits, whilst others, like A Lotta Locomotion and Girls' Rolling Stock, have been shunted off the ... Ive seen the musical many times and each time was more amazing then the one before. I am lucky to be in the chorus in an amateur production at the moment and have also had the privilege of working with some of the cast members including the character Tyrone. All the songs are magnificent but the 2 that stand out for me are Hard Work and Bring on Tomorrow. They have such energy which is so inspiring thats why I love it so much. So my message to you is to just go and BUY IT OR YOU DEFINITELY WILL BE MISSING OUT!!!!!!!!
