High School Musical is being talked about by teenager's everywhere, so I was determined to see what it was like. I asked someone I knew (who is obsessed with it) If I could borrow their copy of the soundtrack - And now I wish I hadn't. For staters the actual music is just over-used up beat dance tracks. With some weak mordern R and B thrown in. The things kicks of with a song entitled "Start of Something New". The song is merely just a badly written, horribly sang pop song. The vocals are very poor, there are signs of lack of emotion (in all the tracks). The second one, which is more of an R and B tune, is well irritating. All i say is that this is quite possibly the most perfect, surreal movie ever created. Me and my friend Stephen Kane sat and watched it seven times and never got bored. We know all the songs and the words "What time is iiiitt??" I 100% recommend this movie, it made my life.

I've always loved the film Oliver! especially singing along with the musical numbers in the film. So recently I purchased the CD soundtrack. I already love the songs so there's no issue there but the songs are cut from what is heard in the film. This disapointed me which is why i've only given it three stars.

A timeless album... I bought it for the song by Sarah McLachlan (Angel) and it was worth it for that one track which is so beautiful that it never fails to make me stop and stare. The rest of the album follows suit, particularly Peter Gabriel (I Grieve). If you like music to think to, this is for you.

It's good to see the renewed interest in Neil Diamond's work. Although most people know him via his hits during the 60s, 70s and early 80s, this album is completely different from most of his other recordings. I heard this album the first time a few years after its release and despite a young age got hooked on it. It has a majestic feel all over, as if it flew over the musical landscape of its period, and probably would do the same even if being released today. One could claim that it gave signals of the new age sound that later developed. In other words, it has aged remarkably well. On the one hand, I am strangely drawn to the carefree and rather shallow exuberance of 'Grease', and it's songs, but on the other, I find it completely repellent. Because 'Grease' and it's accompanying soundtrack fail to chart the lows that a person's teenage years can provide. Somewhat accurately, it charts the lust and the obsession with sex that tends to characterise most teenage behaviour, but this film has nothing for the misfits and the individuals who have never been a part of the popular crowd. In essence, 'Grease' and it's accompanying soundtrack are a blatant nod to conformity, and the message is simple: conform, be part of a gang, be sex-obsessed, be shallow. If you actually like paying for what are little more than sound effects masquerading as tracks, then get this soundtrack. For example: Banister Fight - RZA; Flip Sting; Sword Swings - Luis Bacalov;Axe Throws - Bernard Herrmann.
