Everybody knows 'Sitting on the Dock of the Bay'. It still gets lots of airplay. There is so much more to Otis than that, and this cheapie is the perfect introduction to a great talent.

The style is southern soul, with intentionally slow strong rhythms and plaintive Memphis horns topped off with Otis' dramatic impassioned soulful vocals.

My fave is his first R&B hit 'These Arms Of Mine', but I love them all. Then of course there is 'Try A Little Tenderness' which could make you a better person, the feeling is so strong.

Chance a few quid and enjoy. I bet you won't regret it.

Music : Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul
HISTORY:
With the groundwork of his first two albums behind him, "Pain In My Heart" in 1964 and "The Great Otis Redding Sings Soul Ballads" in early 1965, Otis Redding stepped into the Stax recording studio on McLemore Avenue in Memphis on the 9th of July 1965 to quickly slap down his 3rd album. And quick was the optional word. In one long adrenalin fuelled session (broken up by night gigs the band had to attend - only to reconvene in the early hours of the morning), its 11 songs took less than 24 hours to produce. In fact, Otis flew out of Memphis the very next day to do another gig! It is of course now recongnised as a bona-fide 60ts soul classic and this "Collector's Edition" is here to celebrate that.

As Otis Redding's individual albums go, this disc is one of the best, second only to the excellent "Otis Blue: Otis Redding Sings Soul." Over half of the tracks are Redding originals, including the funky "I'm Sick Y'All" and "Sweet Lorene," the wonderful "Ton of Joy," and "Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa (Sad Song)," which Otis said was inspired by the theme from the TV game show, "The $64,000 Question." The usual handful of cover tunes are exceptional as well, such as the memorable renditions of "Try A Little Tenderness" and "Tennessee Waltz." The Beatles' "Day Tripper" gets completely reworked in an energetic Memphis treatment, complete with the punchy horns of the Mar-Keys. ... Read More:

Let me start by saying that this is such a good live album. If you like Otis and want a good live album by him, then this is definitely the place to start. I've got quite a few of his live albums (whiskey a go go etc) and have to say that this is him at his best. His voice is incredible, and he has great interaction with the crowd. It gives you shivers to hear him sing fa fa fa fa (sad song), with the crowd singing along so obviously enjoying themselves. You also get some great ballads as well. The only down side is that it is just over 38 mins long and when a live album is as good as this, you are left wanting more. Buy a perfect piece of soul music and enjoy.

Its a top, top CD if your'e into soul music. I don't mind the current soul tunes but the "oldies r' goldies" no disrespect to the current soul artists. Every Song is a Tune. What can I say, the man is a legend.
