This is one of my very favourite albums- I am usually a heavy metal fan but across any genre it is difficult to ignore genius and that is something that Paul Simon definately displays on Graceland.
However- having heard the original and the remaster, track down the original cd.
It's much better and I just wish record labels would stop pissing about with great albums to make some more money.

I have been listening to the music of Paul Simon since i can remember.
What you get here is not a rebel, a follower of trends, a commercial artist or a controversial one.
What we get with Paul simon is some of the most beautiful songs ever in the English Language, performed with the respect they deserve.
As one part of the duo Simon and Garfunkel, Paul Simon wrote : The Boxer, sounds of silence, Bridge over Troubled water and Mrs Robinson to name a few.
What strikes me as a surprise in this collection is how several of the songs here are of the same quality if not superior to the above.
ie American Tune, Slip Slidin away, Still crazy after all these years, Kodachrome, Gone at Last, The Boy in the Bubble.

Yes...this is easily one of the most seminal and perfectly concieved albums of all time. If you have read the other reviews you should have ordered your copy by now. I'll add my tuppence by saying that personally I feel there's moments on this album that scratch the surface of divinity itself.

perfect.

The Voice, released in May 2001, is Russell Watson's debut album and marks the end of his progression from the pub and club circuit, and the start of his recording career after signing with the Decca label.

The album hit No.1 in the UK Classical charts and reached No.5 in the UK Album Chart. Following its release in the US it also hit the top spot, making history as the first time a British artist has topped both the UK and US Classical Charts, and if that wasn't enough, it was awarded `Album of the Year' and 'Best Selling Classical Album' at the Classical BRIT awards in 2001.

The songs are a mix of classical and popular, with the emphasis on the classics to enable its eligibility for that chart: 60% of the playing time must ... Read More:

Lots of deservedly good reviews but I don't think anyone has yet mentioned how staggeringly beautiful this collection is. Simon's singing on these subtle, melodically brilliant songs is outstanding; he has finally reached a place where he is happy to use his voice as an instrument, blending with the sounds and players to great effect.

Lyrically it's as engaging as his finest work with several startling and, at times, witty lines.

Beautiful playing throughout from a tried and trusted band and Eno providing sufficient other worldiness to lift the whole thing onto another plane.

Magical and beguiling from start to finish.

Every album Paul Simon produced in the early to mid 70's is worth buying and this is no exception. There are some great songs: the title track, "My Little Town" with Art Garfunkel, "50 Ways To Leave Your Love", "Gone At last" and "Have a Good Time". The other tracks certainly aren't weak, but for me these are the best.

The musicians on the album are all first-rate. The drummer is mainly Steve Gadd (including his famous intro to 50 Ways) with Grady Tate on one track. Theres variously Michael Brecker, Phil Woods, David Sanborn and Eddie Daniels playing Saxophone (all top Jazz players). Phil Woods plays the storming solo Saxophone outro to "Have a Good Time".

The highlight for me (as a Pianist) is the late Richard Tee's superb uptempo Gospel ... Read More:

This is a very acceptable compilation of Paul Simon's solo career spanning both his years with Columbia Records and Warner Brothers who now have the rights to all his back catalogue. From the early days we have Me And Julio... up to the more recent Bernadette. Most fans will have these tracks on several albums already so it is difficult to see who this album is aimed at.Paul Simon solo and with Simon & Garfunkel has so many compilation albums available that they vastly outnmber his albums of original material. With the addition of digital remastering, few could fault this collection though the inclusion of Rene And Georgette Magritte And Their Dog is strange.I know few people who like this track which finds Paul at his most pretentious and dull. However, the rest of the album ... You could describe this album as "S&G without Garfunkel" or "Paul Simon unplugged before he was famous" (leaving aside the early "Tom and Jerry" incarnation).

If you want to hear more S&G material than you can find on the interminable re-packages of greatest hits, you could buy one of their studio albums (or, for a very fair price, "Collection", which gives you all of them). This album is a lesser-known alternative.

It was recorded in London in 1965, during the hiatus between the initial failure of "Wednesday morning 3 am" and the re-vamping of "Sound of Silence" which took S&G to stardom.

All the songs are better known as S&G recordings, apart from "A church is burning" and "The side of a hill", though the lyrics of the latter were later ... Read More:

All I have to say is, that this is an utterly brilliant album - imo the best thing Mr Simon ever did - this will eat into your heart and bones and never let go.

"There Goes...", despite the whimsical title, is an impressive collection of songs, at times stunning, at other times infectious and at other times moving.
On "American Tune" we have a contender for not only one of Paul Simon's best ever songs, but also a contender for surely the top 50 best songs written in the last 40 years. A chorale-like stateliness underpins a moving, thoughtful vocal that is a profound state of the nation address for its time.
"Something So Right" is a tender love song done with elegance and intelligence. "Loves Me Like A Rock" is infectious and "Take Me To The Mardi Gras" is authentic and charming.
"Tenderness" sounds like something Dion and the Belmonts might have pulled off.
An over-looked classic.
