This is the way Hip-Hop should always sound. For me OST was not just the greatest Hip-Hop album released but the greateast album of all time. Stepfather follows OST up perfectly and is the only album that could possibly equal it. The tracks are incredibly varied whilst keeping that brilliant PUTS sound that we know and love. PUTS keep Hip-Hop the way it should always sound, its not all about the "guns and the hos", but about how good your beats and lyrics are whilst having fun doing it. A near perfect album, an absolute must buy.

I don't often make sweeping statements about music, but this is undoubtedly one the finest albums released this side of the millenium, and absolutely one of the best hip hop albums ever put down. As previous reviews have pointed out, this is not "groundbreaking", "experiemental" hip hop - and that's quite the point. PUTS are very much of the philosophy that if it ain't broke, don't f* with it. These are two guys who grew up on Hip Hop when that was something to be proud of, and their sound is very much in the style of a lot of early 90's rap. In other words, it's great. People Under The Stairs are the kind of hip-hop act who are very difficult to be introduced to as they are so underground. You'd never hear them on any radio station let alone on TV. The only way you could be introduced to them is if you came across them by luck on the internet, or if someone you knew owns a cd. They are also the kind of act who when you first listen to them, you think it's good... but the more you listen to it, the better it gets! As they do in this album, PUTS use old funky jazzy samples to produce old skool style hip-hop tunes in which they rap positive rhymes from smoking blunts to getting laid (which is a breath of fresh air when all you hear nowerdays is rappers rhyming about guns, money and chrome rims)! Before you judge this release you have to take it for what it is:- a mini lp. It falls somewhere between 'new material', 'b-sides collection', 'out-takes' and 'humorous spin-offs'. The Majority of Tracks are Sessions from OST which have been resurrected for our listening pleasure. It's short length and wide range of songs stop you getting into one type of groove for more than three songs. But it is still super funky, jazzy and relaxed. I found myself diving into my record collection to dig up my other puts albums to compare music and lyrics to other puts tracks. No reviews yet? come on, don't tell me people are sleeping on the PUTS !!? I wont lie, i've always had a soft spot for the PUTS, and i'm really happy that this new record is up to scratch. Where the hell do they find their samples? they always manage to find some sweet soulful stoned out breaks to chop up. The record is smooth and so easy to listen to, it flows really well. 'pass the 40' is wicked & a different sound for them, 'Tuxedo rap' is a banger, 'more than you know' is a very beautiful track based on a sombre sample - its probably my favourite track. 'step in' and 'flex off' have the classic PUTS sound. And 'eat st.' is a comical track rhyming about their love of food! Its a great chilled out summer rap record. 4.5 ... Read More:
