This is a much better 'Best of' compilation of Perry Como recordings than some!

A 'Best of' compilation certainly gives you more freedom of song selection, but whether that luxury has been used to it's full potential is another matter!

This collection includes a nice selection of the popular Juke-box classics such as 'Magic moments' and 'Catch a falling star'. The collection also includes such classics as 'It's impossible' and 'And I love you so' - which certainly proved that Perry could still do well in the charts in the Rock and Pop 1970's!

Most pleasing on this collection is the presence of 'Beats there a heart so true' which ... Read More:

Perry Como personified the relaxed and affable TV host, and his golden era on the small screen was without doubt the 1950's. His total singing career, of course, covered a much longer span. The opening track, "Don't Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes" goes back to 1952, and "The Best Of Times" was recorded in 1987 when he was 75 years young.

Pierino Ronald Como (b. 1912, d. 2001) followed a career path typical of many other Italian-American vocalists, fronting bands to begin with, and then signing with RCA in 1943. His output was enormous, but the compilers have simplified things by devoting Disc 1 to his UK chart releases, and Disc 2 to material that proved most popular over the range of records, TV and concerts.

Another week, another Perry Como compilation - the shops are full of them and it doesn't help the reputation of this well-loved star of the 1950s. I could be very rude about the motives for the release of this one - suffice to say the title track is used in a TV commercial.

Perry Como started off as a romantic balladeer and then, in the 50s when he was a regular on prime-time American TV, moved more into novelty numbers, like "Hot Diggity" and "Delaware", huge hits on both sides of the Atlantic. After a long gap in the 60s he achieved even bigger success in a return to ballads, with the likes of "It's Impossible". By this time, however, his voice was not what it had been and a succession of similar schmaltzy songs, together with an increasing laid ... Read More:

This is the perfect Christmas album. My father had the LP in the 1970's, and every year it was dusted off. There are a number of nauseous moments, such as the narration, but everything else is beautiful. From the opening croon of 'There's no place like home for the holidays', to the incredibly moving 'O Holy night', this is the only CD you need for christmas. Light the fire, mull the wine, remember loved ones gone, and wipe away a nostalgic tear.

On this album we see Perry Como's Christmas songs from as early as the 1940's to as late as the 1980's! So there is a good scope. Hot diggity! This is an excellent addition to my collection of CD's! I had the 78rpm version of Hot Diggity by Perry Como, and although I have a turntable which still plays 78's the whereabouts of the vinyl is unknown!

There are so many great songs on the album, including It's impossible, Magic Moments and Delaware, and many more. (I'm sure all you youngsters have also heard Papa loves Mambo).

I'm so happy to be able to hear Hot Diggity on my iPod, this is a great feelgood song and the boring train journey I have to drudgery every day is made more bearable by such songs!

Go get it!

These two albums are two of the best Perry ever recorded. His voice naturally fitted both genres. The Nashville album was under the direction of Chet Atkins and featured those greats of the RCA studios in Nashville - Chet Atkins on guitar, the Anita Kerr Singers, Boots Randolph and Floyd Cramer to name just a few! "Lightly Latin" gave Perry the oppportunity to explore the then current Latin scene - outstanding are his versions of Meditation and Dindi - in fact the whole concept is outstanding.
The Oldies label has not been kind to the Como catalogue - although they have relaesed many of his albums too many have been from poor quality car-boot LP transfer and it would have been better that they had not released them at all. However, this time Song/BMG ... Read More:
