Absolutely have to agree with Mark Astons review here over the missing-middle-eight-repetitiveness of this album. At first listen it sounds like a glorious sugar coated update of the Screams first album, "Sonic Flower Groove", with "Beautiful Future" and the "Glory of Love "(in both forms) particularly brilliant in a second-summer-of-pop type way. "Uptown" is good in the same way that "Trainspotting" and "Screamadelica" (the track not the album) were, and cover "Over & Over" is another Broken Bobby (TM) version of "Damaged". But it's true, all these songs sound unfinished and either repeat themselves adnausium in some sick loop after about 20 seconds, or else take the cursed fade out route at the end. Criminal stuff because this could have ... Read More:

Beautiful dance/rave culture/trance/pop/rock n roll euphoria.

this is an epic album, of gigantic proportions
the opener 'Movin on up' is a 70's rock style track with help from a gospel choir, jazz piano and chirpy guitars. then comes 'slip inside this house'. although not written by the scream, the bass guitar and percussion are beautiful, a gloomy yet booming song. 'Dont fight it feel it' is the most uplifting song ive heard. it plays into your brain and any fan of music will appreciate the singing.

the the highlight of the album 'higher than the sun' is a dub epic. althouugh on 4mins long it really will knock you socks off, i cant express just how cool and ice this song is, you have to hear it to realise ther beauty. ... Read More:

Why have they no tracks from their first two albums or any early singles from the mid eighties, they had some decent songs from that period.Part of the bands history seems to have been overlooked.
Screamadelica was a great album, one of few from the first indie-rave era that had substance and all their albums are worthwhile even if they do take a pick and mix approach to music from the past few decades.I still find them a modern sounding band in comparison to the stone roses museum or the oasis o.a.p home.
On investigation it seems there is another compilation called More Dirty Hits (a japanese version) that has some earlier tracks on it.This seems quite common, interesting tracks only turning up on hard to get or expensive imports, why, why, why?

Every once in a while, Primal Scream perform their Grand Theft Audio. Which is that they rubbish anything they've done before, steal some old Rolling Stones albums, and try to copy them. Call it a reinvention, call it what you want. But the idea of some scrawny politicised rock warrior, or whatever he's known as, deciding he just wants to go Good Time Boogie just seems to me to be a backwards step.

Why, when you have all sonic armoury and intelligence to rely on, you want to deconmstruct, to simplify, to stupidify? "Go back to your mama, she'll take care of you", Gillespe advises on lead single `Country Girl', which sounds oddly like 1972 at Mick Jaggers House. And that advise he has surely taken - returning to the old template of 1994, and producing an album ... Read More:

Having loved Screamadelica I bought this album on CD when it was released back in 1994. After the excellence of Screamadelica I thought this would be a safe purchase based on some glowing reviews but sadly I was wrong.
The album sounds very uneven, with Stones clone tracks like Rocks and Jailbird jarring against tracks like Funky Jam, despite the presence of George Clinton on 2 tracks. A few weeks after buying this CD I remember trading it in against something else, but at the end of the day I think we can forgive them for this temporary loss of direction because by 1997 the Scream were back on form with Vanishing Point - Burning Wheel on that album is an amazing track.

If it's really for sale for less than £2, then you can't afford to not own this album. Somewhat undervalued, I bet that in 5 to 10 years time, bands will be namedropping this album as a must-mention major influence.
Brilliant, dark, druggy and unlike anything anyone else was doing (the others were flogging the exhausted pony that was Brit Pop, probably), Vanishing Point was new territory for Primal Scream and for British rock. While the Brit Poppers were riding a cocaine wave of increasingly banal, mainstream success, our then Brighton-based heroes Primal Scream (increasingly seen as veteran rock n rollers even back then) appeared to be exploiting the anxieties, paranoia and 'strung-outness' of a speed/e/whatever comedown to move away from Stones wannabe territory and show ... god knows what the scream were thinking when they made "beautiful future"; this album is so blatantly commercial, it could make you scream (pun intended).

I miss everything that this band ever stood for - and I say this with about 13 or so years hindsight: there`s no urgency here, no irony, nothing...not even real sleaze...it`s simply utterly boring.

in a nutshell, primal scream have obviously run out of ideas: this might well be their last shot at chart success - and the scream`s motivation for targeting the kiddie market. mark my words, it`s not gonna work.

therefore, avoid this one like the pest; and hope for better days...maybe.

beautiful future? not.

My favourite album without a doubt. Put simply, every home should have acopy. The scream team made a quite dazzling album with this one. Spanninga huge number of genres such as electronica, punk, free-form jazz, krautrock and hip-hop this album is breathtaking from start to finish. Atotal masterpiece.

The ambient, haunting opening track `Deep Hit of Morning Sun' is packed with buzzes and crackles, building tension for Primal Scream to kick in with the Electronica Rock they are now renowned for. That is exactly what happens when the black dancefloor anthem `Miss Lucifer' bursts out.

It is a curious and particular formula that was used in the previous album but still works. Except this time more punk has trickled into the beats and the guitar. The chanting, loose vocals and the chainsaw guitars that have a painfully sharp edge that permanently compete for attention shows this work has taken much influence from punk rock groups of the 70s.

A thin boundary lay in Primal Screams' work: is it pretentious or not? `Some Velvet Morning' is the case in question, where Kate Moss ... Read More:

A long time ago some Glaswegian indie boys suddenly started thinking they were actually the Rolling Stones....
A bit of a mixed bag this. You will be very disappointed if you are looking for anything similar to Screamadelica. However, if you are a big Scream fan it is essential, if only for 'Losing more than I'll ever have' which was basically remixed to become 'Loaded'- if you can get hold of the Farley mix of 'Loaded' the lineage is even more obvious. It is the best track on the album by a mile, though there are a few other decent tunes on it.

When my ears were smaller and my hunger for pharmaceuticals larger they were my favourite band and I have only given this 3 stars...........which should tell a story.
