I have been a Will Oldham (in his many forms) for years, so was looking forward to hearing this new live album. On first hearing I was very surprised...I found my foot tapping and then my leg, that's right...I was almost dancing to a Bonnie Prince Billy album! `What on earth is he saying?!' I here you cry. Please bear with me. This album breaths new life in to some of the classic songs and some sound so different there are hardly recognizable. Not that that's a bad thing...They still manage to keep the sparseness and the raw beauty of the originals, but seem to be sang with hope. Harem Scarem provide the music and there talent really shines though. An amazing album. 5 stars

It's becoming almost an annual event to churn out a Prince Greatest Hits album now. The annoying thing about that is that there's not much different about any of them. They usually contain at least 10 tracks similar to the previous effort and never have anything from the Batman album. Batdance was a huge hit I recall. This "Ultimate" album has the novelty factor of some extended remixes (basically the old 12" singles). Overall though, this compilation is lacking and doesn't show off enough of the great man's versatility. It's the safe option for the casual fan.

If you were too young at the time to buy his albums but old enough to remember how cool he was and do some sexy dance moves too. This is for you, it has all the greats on there and is a good addition if your adding a few 80's icones to your CD collection.

Baby I'm a Star. 10/10 9. Purple Rain. 8/10 OVERALL GRADE: 10/10 Prince's 2nd best album, behind "Sign "O" the Times". Just edit "Purple Rain" a little bit and it would rise from 8/10 to 9/10, because at 8.41, it is too long. (and "Purple Rain's" outro is more than 5 mins!)

There really should be a national compulsory day-off for the whole nation when a Will Oldham record is released! Because they should be savoured, like a fine wine (which incidentally always goes well with an Uncle Will record)- hence the reason I buy them all on vinyl - a listening experience! He is the benchmark for all songwriters of our generation and he astounds with every record. And this one is a real grower, just like The Letting Go which crept up on you stealthily and threw you to the ground mercilessly and has never let go since! Long live the prince!

Live 4 Love. 10/10 OVERALL GRADE: 9/10 the best songs are 5 of the 6 singles, "Gett Off", "Cream", "Diamonds and Pearls", "Thunder", "Money Don't Matter 2 Night". The other single "Insatiable" features Prince using his falsetto, rather badly. A very good album to say the least.

I realy dont know what the heck Prince was up to on this album. It is a jumble of him sqawking and squealing and the odd drum thump and guitar string twang...and we are supposed to accept this as funk??? Go back to your roots Prince, that is where your talent lies. Stop this reinvention crap! it flunked with the name squiggle..so drop it with the music!

The film was pretty good, thoug didn't always work. Nicholson was the star, Basinger just screamed !!! As for the music well overall it was much better than the film. 'The Future' starts us off, a terrific funk workout pinctuated with snippets from the film and tender strings which really resonate. 'Electric Chair' is an altogether ballsier affair with 'The Joker' confessing he is a bad man and always will be. Then we come to the weakest tracks on the album. 'Partyman' was featured in the film (not all here were). It's a funky jam, definetely toe tapping but not the most memorable, though the scene where 'The Joker' is wrecking the art gallery in which this track features is. 'The Arms of Orion' like its predecessor it was released as a single but is rather underwhelming ... Read More:
