Think of all the Led Zeppelin songs you love. Now think of them all played on "Eastern bazaar" instuments that can't be tuned to the pentatonic scale. This crushingly disappointing album brings nothing to the music that defined a rock standard. Witness the number of copies for sale "new or used", and you will realise that dozens before me made the same bad mistake when they bought this self-indulgent offering from Page and Plant. The reviewers who gave it 5 stars are either suffering cognitive dissonance, or took too many of the drugs that the album's stars enjoyed back when they were good.

There is a good album in here struggling to get out of the straightjacket imposed on it by Steve Albini, who dampens everything down with a hideous spongy bottom-end production that makes this record sound like it was recorded in a padded cell. I had to look at the credits to realise there was a drummer and bassist present; both sound like they were banished to the studio car park, to keep them out of the sight of the two rock gods whilst they got on with the business of talking about the good old days.

The mighty Most High transcends most of the rest of this material; but Blue Train and When We Were Young are also fine songs. However there are also a couple of duds: House Of Love and the ultimate throwaway Burning Up.

I have a vinyl copy of this album that is in near pristine condition. Why? Because it has hardly ever been played. Same applies to the CD, in fact I think I only played it the once. The very idea that this shows Led Zeppelin 'Live' is a mistaken one as they were so much, much better than this. Remember that this is the soundtrack to a film made when each frame had to be etched in stone and printed from inks harvested by crushing dinosaur ears. It's old, it's past it's prime and should be gently put to sleep.

To judge a band by one dodgy performance or ill advised live record though is foolish. I saw Zep live several times including both Knebworths and they were astounding, no other band comes even close.

This CD does them ... Read More:

Music : Walking Into Clarksdale [Extra Tracks] - Japan
After the brilliant "No Quarter", Page and Plant joined together again to make a real masterpiece. The songs are powerful, "Most High" is my favorite, but "When the World was young" or "Blue Train" are among the best too. A very good effort that shows that old-rock legends still live and survive among so many trash music out there. Very creative music, a must for Page/Plant fans.
