Ok Ok so it's Christmas time again, time for "YET ANOTHER" Rod's Greatest hits collection. Now, please don't get me wrong here, I appreciate that dear old "Rodders" needs lots of money to pay for all those ex wives and kids, but PLEEEEASE give us something fresh!! I must admit that it's my wife that is the Rod fan in our house, and every year she looks out for Rod's latest offering around Christmas time, and lo and behold, this year it's yet another "Greatest hits" compilation. I am writing this review 2 days before the release of this album because we have already heard it.........loads of times, poor old Maggie May has been on more albums than the Beatles, She must be knackered! Rods gravely voice suits these classic tracks perfectly. My wife and I listen to this CD over and over. If you like Rod, or like the old crooners songs then I'm sure you'll like this cd.

The Story So Far: The Very Best Of Rod Stewart... the title tries to convince us that this is everything we need and that it represents all the best material by Rod up to a certain point... well, it doesn't do that completely, but it is a really good effort. There are a few "MUST HAVE" songs on it, so that works OK. There are a few "WHY THAT ONE" songs as well (I can't stand Waltzing Matilda... surely there was one track better somewhere in the past... well of course we know there was... this is just a record company exec's choice) The REAL classics are there, like You Wear It Well, Sailing, Maggie May, I Was Only Joking, Killing Of Georgie, and others. I like Rod, I like some of the old classics from the crooners and this take by Rod is not at all bad. Okay so some of the tracks are not the well known crooner classics but hey they can't all be as theres only so many. My wife and I prefer the first volume in the series but this is almost as good.

Ok,so some mixed reviews on this one - firstly,I am no big fan of Rod Stewart but I am a big fan of good music and this type of music in particular. For a top rock star like Rod to put his reputation on the line by recording these songbooks must have been a big decision for him to make.I agree that he is no old style crooner but I think he makes a great attempt at it. There are many great performances in this collection and to be fair,he does himself proud on most of the tracks. I think however that the orchestral arrangements are a little bland at times and an artist draws his inspiration from those around him and relies heavily on great arrangements and inspiring performances by supporting musicians. "Every Picture Tells A Story" is one of Rod's truely best albums of all time and a real must have CD for all the fans! The songs are the best and above all it is a real collector's item. BUY IT!!!

Classic songs sung as only Rod Stewart can. Mixed feelings as to how classic some of these tracks are but they are mostly pleasing. One of a series that I think will grow bigger and a CD my wife and I listen to every now and then but we still prefer the first volume.

This cd is first rate - the best Rod Stewart recording I have heard and, in my opinion,the one he will be remembered for most as the years go by. Glorious lyrics,glorious singing by a man with one of the best sounding and memorable voices in the history of music.Don't listen to the critics - they just envy him for all the beautiful women he dates!

This collection is almighty collecting albums of the highest calibre together, especially the first four. The star of the show is Every Picture Tells A Story which is wonderful. The way he takes the songs on make them unique and is his greatest talent yet his songwriting deserves to held aloft also with some very fine compositions.
