This album marked a change for Rush and the world in general as we moved into the '80's. I wasn't a fan at first after being brought up on 2112 and Hemispheres, but the years have mellowed me. I think it is probably the last Album that Rush made that I can still listen to after nearly 30 years. When Signals came out in '82 I nearly cried. Buy it and reminisce over simpler times...

Yes! Around 28 years after this album was released, Rush have never been able to excel the half-dozen songs found on this album, at least in my eyes. The half-dozen songs ensconced within this CD personally rank as classics of the genre, with the trio's musical skills being at their peak. It essentially serves as a conduit between the excellent, but ridiculously overblown Hemispheres and the album that really marked their overture towards the mainstream, the seminal Moving Pictures. Without making a detailed track-by-track analysis, I'll safely say that The Spirit of Radio and Freewill are deserved stalwarts of the classic-rock world. I just had to give it 5 stars to balance out the idiot who gave it 1 star. Read the other reviews, they're spot on. Excellence from the '70's.

Didn't like it that much when I first heard it (11) too young. Looking back, it seems the young don't know Jack.

Long-time Rush fan here. Straight away this became my favourite live Rush CD. Because - the mix is spot on, and the choice of songs. You don't feel like you're lost in the crowd or 10 miles away from the stage or wearing cotton-wool earplugs. It's the first time Rush have got the mix dead right for a live CD in my opinion. They seem to have chosen some of their 'warmest' songs for this CD and also some of them are appearing on a live CD for the first time (not just those from 'Snakes and Arrows'). If you're a casual Rush fan who thinks you already have enough live Rush CDs, then you're missing out not getting this.

If you are after a collection of the more 'radio friendly' tracks that this consistent trio put out during their early to middle period you can't do better than this and at what a price (less than £3 at time of writing). If you are after a little more, a collection that has all of these tracks plus excellent 'album tracks' as well, go for 'GOLD' a 2cd set which gathers together the truly best from the same period.

As you are questioned when you fill in the reviews - yes. I am over 13. Because of that sad fact, I can reminisce about being a teenager when Rush released Hemispheres. I wasn't 'smart' enough back then to appreciate it, I much preferred the later releases of Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures, but now I'm an old fart, I can look back with fondness and say I was wrong. Play it back to back with Farewell to Kings to get the full-on orgasmatronic effect of 70's prog rock at its finest.

I very rarely if ever give an album five-stars. However, S&A is so fresh, so well written, so heavy, so melodic...it just seems like Rush have been working up to this for years. I would even put it up there with a Farewell to Kings and Permanent Waves in terms of quality. Buy this, you will not be disappointed.

I have been a Rush fan for many years, since this album was realesed. This album, however in your opinion, might be the best live album, but thay are some negative traits and positive traits. Let's discover these reasons. POSITIVES: Good song selection Good versions of Xanadu, Jacobs Ladder, Closer to the Heart, etc. 2 shows crammed together (Permanent Waves tour tracks 4-7) and the rest is the Moving Pictures Tour. NEGATIVES: Songs fade everytime Poor sound quality Bad versions of The Spirit Of Radio, La Villa Strangiato, etc. WHERE'S A PASSAGE TO BANGKOK ON THE FIRST CD ISSUE? In between, the live album is OK. If you are planning to buy this live album, it won't be the best one you got. Read More:

Life - work and family - got in the way of music during my late 20s and 30s and I lost touch with Rush, a band that I'd followed through my late teens and early 20s. I caught up with them again last year with the excellent "Snakes & Arrows" and decided to fill in the gap by listening to some albums that I've missed over the years. "Grace Under Pressure" has them using a different soundscape than I was used to, with its heavy use of synthesizers and keyboards. However, I actually generally prefer bands who make good use of keyboards as I think it adds interest to the sound. Rush seem to have integrated them pretty well on this album, the songs are, if anything, slightly catchier in general than in their 70s work but the band remain recognisably Rush.
