I bought this album because I love the track "Tea". It's only 40 seconds but the damn song has been in my head and I had to crumble and buy the album. It's excellent. Her range is great, the songs are neither pop nor country nor middle of the road, but timeless soul and blues. I first had this album on cassette back in 1990, but lost it. Now I have it again on CD, and it all comes rushing back. I love the irresistible angst of the eponymous track "Stop" and the infectiously catchy "Piece of My Luck". Strangely, even the sleeve design hasn't dated- I really love the black dress she wears in the sleeve notes. Also, just for good measure, the lyrics are there too just to help closet singalongaSam fans like me.

This is a good collection of Sam material, although if you're a Sam Fan you would have almost all of the tracks. One can always quibble with the selections on these sorts of albums, but (according to the onecandle website), Sam selected these herself.

There are some rare/unreleased tracks to make this a good buy, such as the demo of Stop, Valentine Moon and the final version of Show Your Love.

The sound is good and the package is nice, but it would have been great to have a some more B-sides or live tracks in there, too: Horse to the Water from Concert for George, perhaps, or some solo live selections?

Maybe next time.

Like others, Sam Brown remains a incredibly under rated singer, performer and writer. Yes, there was the brief hit single phase and, sadly, her current stint with Jols Holland, but she is a remarkable talent, and you should be ashamed for not buying her records.

Releases that are few and far between these days, so even a 5 track EP is a welcome sight. In fact, I share your shame as this actually sneaked out last year and I missed it. Curses!

As the title suggests, "Ukulele And Voice" is Sam Brown accompanied by a ukulele singing 5 wonderful songs, each one rich with imagery and emotion. "Kiss Of Love", co-written with Jools Holland did previously appeared on one of his albums as a duet with Nick Cave, but it too returns ... Read More:

My fav Sam's album is Stop! and this album follows it. I also like 43 Minutes and Box a lot, but Of The Moment is as surprising, original, well written and emotional as her first album, released 20 years ago. I highly recommend it because it's pure joy. thank you, Sam, and please, keep on singing!!!!!

Sam Brown should be a benchmark; compulsory listening to any wannabe singer contemplating releasing a record who happens to thinks that warbling falsetto-like is singing. Maybe only then would the airwaves be free of the proliferation of noise pollution that assaults the senses. This girl has a voice that's a mix of the finest Belgium chocolate, rich dark molasses, and a 30 year old malt whisky all mixed together and served in a tumbler made of molten girders. And this album is as good as life gets. Buy it, make your ears your friends for life.

This was the first Sam Brown CD I bought after 'Stop, and it's excellent. It has that rare combination of really good, thoughtful songs; accessible arrangements; and above all, that sensational voice - which by now most people would have been knocked out by in 'Concert for George'.

The highlights for me are the title track (creepy but very catchy); As the Crow Flies; and actually, every track except TOES.
And full marks to the producers for delivering almost a Stones-like drum sound.

An excellent album and well worth a purchase.

7.April Moon by: Sam Brown

Music : April Moon
I suppose any follow up to 'Stop' would have had to be brilliant, so this album's a little bit of a letdown. That said, it has some very enjoyable songs and is a good, solid, pop/soul album with some great guest musicians such as Joe and Vicki Brown, David Gilmour and Jon Lord.

Mindworks, Once in Your Life and With a Little Love are probably the standout songs but there aren't really any throwaways, either.

The CD re-issue has four extra tracks, including a great version of the Aretha Franklin song 'I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You'.

The LP can only be found second hand or on eBay but the CD (also out of print) has much cleaner, 'punchier' sound and the extra tracks, so it's better value.

She never fails to impress me - yet she eludes the commercial success she kind of enjoyed with Stop and the much ignored April Moon. All tracks are highly contagious with BloodRunCold particularly outstanding. What more can I say? You'd be a fool to not have it on your CD collection!
