You can't beat the originals. Durham's stunning vocals and the sheer fun and imagination on these recordings shines through. The recordings seem to come from a variety of sources and the sound does vary. But the performances allow you to forget that.

Such a shame that the orginal band's reputation is tarnished by association with the New Seekers. They were sweet enough, but there's so much more to the original band, and no other singer at that time matched Durham's vocals.

The well crafted sound is lush enough to compare with Phil Spector, and undoubtedly influenced the next generation of folksy pop: is it any wonder the Australians adored ABBA, having been brought up with The Seekers?

The New Seekers were a revival of the successful Australian folk outfit The Seekers that achieved major success in the UK and USA with songs like Georgy Girl, although none of the original members of the Seekers sang in the New Seekers. Their hit-making career started in 1971 with a cover of Melanie Safka's What Have They Done To My Song, but the real breakthrough came later that year with the exuberant Never Ending Song Of Love. The original, by Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett, also made the charts but the New Seekers' lively melodic version with its bright vocals was clearly the more commercially appealing. Other tuneful hits here include Beg, Steal or Borrow (A UK Eurovision Song Contest entry), the beautiful Circles and a stunning, genuine rock version of Pete ... Read More:

Having outsold many of the major bands in the 1960's, with their superb vocals, close harmonies and their secret weapon - one Miss Judith Durham, the Seekers were on a sure fire road to success.

The early works with a core of folk songs and gospel, lead seamlessly into the very heart of the groups repertoire and then on into the realms of their many big hits penned by Tom Springfield. The development of the group continues into the 'Seen In Green' years when a more modern sound and the groups own works were brought more to the forefront. Bruce Woodley and Judith Durham in particular have subscribed songs and particulalry haunting and evocative melodies. Well done Judith for 'Colours of My Life'!
The discs continue into the 90's with what I have to ... Read More:

There are some very good things about this collection. First, this is the only compilation to include songs from The Seekers' 1997 album 'Future Road' plus the brilliant single release 'Far Shore'. Second, and more significantly, we get the newest recording 'Massachusetts' - fantastic! The remastering is, on the whole, quite clean, and the sound levels have been upped to the maximum in line with most modern CD releases (possibly resulting in some loss in dynamic range...?)

According to the booklet notes, the group "joined in the process to personally select the songs" but I can't believe they would have opted for the mono mixes of some of the songs here over perfectly respectable stereo mixes (e.g. 'A World Of Our Own') or - horror of horrors - the very ... This Australian group achieved massive success in both the UK and the USA in the middle sixties with their gorgeous blend of soaring harmonies and acoustic but full-bodied instrumentation. I’ll Never Find Another You was a number one in Britain and also reaching the top 5 in the USA. World Of Our Own, Georgy Girl and Morningtown Ride likewise did well on both sides of the Atlantic, while my favourite, The soulful Carnival Is Over, was another UK number one. Written by Paul Simon, the song Someday One Day was one of the Seekers’ very first commercial successes in Britain. Their unique folk sound is characterised by a strong female vocal and gripping acoustic blend, including prominent 12-string guitar. Besides the original hits, this collection also includes great ... This import from the USA is the original yet slight different to the UK titles when they were release in 1971/1972 respectively. Beautiful People is the US title of the UK LP Never Ending Song Of Love.

This is a first time 'complete' release on CD. Though most of the tracks have been on various compilations, the brilliant track called 'Cincinati' and also 'Eighteen carot friend' are very hard to find tracks.

Like all the New Seekers songs from the 1970-74 period, the arrangements/vocals are a pleasure to listen to as well as some classic stand outs.

The sound quality have been beautifully remastered. The inside sleeve also shows the original back covers of each album.

Let's hope the classic 2LP set 'Live at the Royal Albert ... Read More:

This really is a great introductory album to The Seekers 'Sound' and representatvie of the enormous talent of the group and the magnificent vocals of Judith Durham.

One point of note is that twice, the listed reviews of the track 'Red Rubber Ball' has been misrepresented in terms of writers. It was written by Bruce Woodley of The Seekers and Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel.

Don't wish to be pernickety here, but if I'd written the song, I'd like the correct credit to be given!

I would highly recommend anybody to also purchase The Seekers Complete which is a 5 Disc virtually complete recording history of the Seekers, also the Album Future Road and of course if you can lay your hands on them, any of Judith Durham's solo recordings. Prepare to be amazed!

Although the New Seekers had folk roots, their music is best described as vocal pop. They were at their best on the faster numbers like the brilliant Never Ending Song Of Love, a huge hit in 1971. Their version in fact overshadowed the original by Delaney and Bonnie And Friends. Another highlight here is their powerful rendition of The Who's Pinball Wizard/See Me Feel Me, which put their sound firmly within the bounds of rock. I also like ballads like Nickel Song, Circles and the more uptempo Beg Steal Or Borrow. Not all of these tracks have aged so well, in my opinion. The cool drink commercial tune I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing was slightly banal to begin with and has grown ever more so because of its over-exposure. There are also some other tepid ballads that display none of their ... Read More:

The New Seekers had their best and most successful years in the early seventies. Many compilations of their music from that period have been released on CD including the outstanding double CD Songbook 1970-74, which I've also reviewed. Meanwhile, their later seventies music was neglected for many years. In 2007, this compilation was finally released. Obviously, it's not as strong as the earlier music, but with Amazon's limited star rating system, it still rates five stars from me. While that Songbook compilation rates at the upper end of five stars, this one comes in at the lower end but is still a most welcome addition to my CD collection.

After the New Seekers broke up in 1974, Lyn Paul embarked on a solo career of strictly limited success. Three of the others (Eve Graham, Paul Layton, ... Read More:
