I love Sigur Ros, and this is a fine album but I cannot help but feeling disappointed. It is indeed another step towards more mainstream audiences, with noise levels toned down and awkward silences ridden of - but this isn't the problem, it's only natural that this would have happened. The problem is that the pain is gone, and without it their music is just some interesting arrangements and atmospheric tunes. Takk was more commercial that the masterpiece that is Ágaetis Byrjun, but the levels of emotion remained high. Even the last release before this album, the single Hljomalind, which was their first proper pop song structurally, retained some grittiness. This album, however, loses that almost completely. I bought this on the strength of customer reviews which made it sound like the kind of music I might like. Wrong. I find the music turgid and monotonous. It is difficult to determine where one track finshes and the next one begins. The strangled warble which passes for vocals is very irritating. It may work as backing music on TV but is does not stand up on its own. Don't be taken in by the Sigor Ros appreciation society (whose entire membership seem to have offered a review here),try before you buy!

I must admit that I don't know if I completely understand this music (yet?). It's kind of like new age Pink Floyd with an Icelandic twist. The reason I say that is because it has such a broad expanse of sound which I do like. I must admit the middle of the album is really worth buying it for - there is such a lot going on it's awesome. However on the down side I feel that some of the tracks are a bit long and seem to have these very strange endings where a load of odd unrelated sounds seem to be tagged on as an after thought. Apart from that it has really grown on me and I think if you like something a bit out of the norm then this may well be for you.

It's hard to really put the experience of listening to this album into words. It is just a relentlessly gorgeous soundscape, even by Sigur Ros' own high standards. Of all their albums, this is the most seamless. As many listeners have commented, the songs seem to blend into each other, as if they are different movements of one work, and the album as a whole simply encapsulates me. That is not to say that the mood is a constant throughout. Rather, the melancholy of Track 1 gives way to the gentle and beautiful optimism of Track 3, whilst the mood of Track 4 drifts between the two, in a wonderfully passive, relaxed way. This collection is worth getting, whether you're a die-hard Sigur Ros fan or a newbie, even if it's for just one track: Í Gær Listen to it and prepare to get blown away.... Í Gær is also getting some airplay on TV as promo music on one of the terrestrial channels...

If someone had told me this album were some lost Sid Barrett Pink Floyd tapes from 1970 I would have believed them. One can instantly hear after this album the vast difference the arrival of Kjartan Sveinsson and his musical training contributed to the orchestral and string arrangements of their subsequent work. I akin Von to Floyd's pre Dark Side material and for a collecter it's still a worthy purchase in following the history of Sigur Ros.

I drove round Iceland a couple of years ago and fell in love with it. This film brought the memories flooding back. Stunning photography, beautiful sounds and a mood you have to experience. Highly highly recommended

If your a fan of Sigur this is a single that is well worth the £5. 3 songs that arn't featured on Takk as well as the single Saeglopur. Its my favourite song on the masterpice that is Takk. Also bonus dvd as well gives you three singles in video.

This short CD (20 minutes) is quite deceiving. It does indeed sound minimalist when you play it from start to end but there's more to this release than meets the eye (or the ear in this case). In fact, the three tracks are really one track deconstructed into three separate pieces. After a little digging around I discovered that all three tracks, if played at the same time, form an amazing single track! Despite the tracks being different lengths they bond together really well. The only way to play 3 tracks at the same time is to rip them to your computer and use an audio editing program to recompile them; each track starts from the same point, so line them up at the very beginning and rip into an uncompressed format to eliminate any added silence. ...
