All hail the king, baby. Max is back. When people thought this album's predecessor 'Dark Ages' was a return to form since their self titled debut, they were wrong. This is definitely the new king of the hill as far as Soulfly albums go. With less experimental breaks and more heavy, thrash and a bit more heavy, this is a must!!

Stand out tracks are 'Conquer', 'For Those About to Rot' and opener 'Blood Fire War Hate' it is relentless, classic Soulfly from start to finish.

Bring on their Bloodstock and mini tour next week, I sure as hell can't wait.

soulfly is very much max caveleras monster, the bands line up has changed enough over the years to suggest its maxs way or the long walk home,we all thought that soulfly would be a world class band, they have never developed into that and in this album, primitive ,are all the reasons why
the good can be found in the heavy riffs and great screams and the thrash that can be found on at least half the songs on show here, other songs are just too messy and patchy and lose themselves in maxs belief that tribal, poppy, rappy beats belong on his records, there are too many guest singers on the album,i believe it is 9 special guests and max makes songs that suit the guest singer which means it isnt always metal,i believe maxs ego is too much on this album ... Max Cavalera is a genius and this album shows why. This a great metal album. Definetly soulfly's best. I highly recommend this album.

Soulfly didn't get enough respect when they arrived back around the turn of the century, people viewed them as a side-project and just wished founder Max Cavelera would re-join his old band Sepultura.
People didn't care for Soulfly's revolving door approach to band line up, and cared even less for their frequent 'guest appearances.'
The bands undeniable talent slowly won over more and more fans with each release, and the band also became more focused and heavier with each release.
After the bands Fifth album 'Dark Ages,' everyone finally treated the band with the respect they deserved, and now the band has followed up their career highlight 'Dark Ages,' and people wonder how they could possibly follow it up.
The answer is simple, ... Read More:

It's been a while, but it was worth the wait. '3' sees Max return to the cutting edge metal that made his name in the 90's. Gone are the overlong (and sometimes sloppy) tribal jams of the first album, and the (slightly too much) experimentation of 'Primitive', and back in place is slimmed down, fat-free, monolithic thrash in the vein of Sepultura's classic 'Chao A.D.'. Opening track 'Downstroy' captures the mood perfectly, with its razor sharp riffs and pummelling double-bass drum-work. The only real venture into new TERRITORY (forgive the pun!) is 'Tree of Pain', with it's beautiful, trancy intro giving way to a Cavalera pounding mid-way, and then returning to a haunting, acoustic outro. Classy stuff. Every song on here is worthy of the Cavalera name, but ... Read More:

The song In The Meantime is a cover version of a Helmet song taken from their album Meantime.

Check it out cos the original is much better although Soulfly's version is good too.

This DVD is a bargain, consisting of all the bands Music Videos, Assorted Live footage, An entire Concert and A fantastic Documentary.
The music videos are nice to have, but not what anyone would buy this for, and the Assorted live footage is a great addition, featuring cameo's from Biohazard, A host of songs not in the main concert and a DVD-highlight where Chino Marino joins the band on stage to perform 'Pain,' from the band's 'Primitive,' album.
The main concert is well filmed, but the sound is out of synch with the video and it is therfore pretty annoying, but if you just listen to it in the background the concert is still fantastic, this out of synch problem is a pretty large disappointment for the real meat of the DVD.
Thankfully the DVD ... Read More:

Well, the 1st soulfly album was great. A sort of nu-metal reworking of Sepultura which was good for one album. But Primitive was just the same with some 'friends' he bought along to make the album sound slightly different (Corey Taylor, Chino etc).
You've guessed it, this album sounds exactly the same as the other soulfly efforts. The album sounds nice enough with good production its just that it is the same as every other bang bang nu-metal out there and some tracks that do try to be different (Tree Of Pain) dont't work at all.
The one standout track is the cover of Sabbaths mighty Under The Sun which works very well. If you want some real brazilian metal try Sepulturas earlier work (See Beneath The Remains).

This album IS for max cavalera fans all round but those who loved him when hes mood was - thrash thrash destroy - rather than kinda experimental nu metal then get this. Sounds like it should had been chaos a.d's follow up, i think it is better than chaos because it is more emotional and thrashy than chaos a.d. The speed at some parts of this album reminds you of sepultura of old, not going as far as beneath the remains, but this is truly max gone back to his thrasher roots. If u like soulfly kool! get this,(tho ive heard of some soulfly fans who think the rather nu metal sounding first album(s) were the best, not liking this thrash masterpiece to much, so beware if you like nu metal better than thrash). If you loved sep but werent too keen on soulfly for the simple fact ... Read More:
