I was at the concert this recording was taken from and like all Spiritualized live performances, it was incredible - and the impressive light show perfectly complemented the music. One big problem: the acoustics in the Albert Hall are rubbish, so it didn't sound nearly as good as it could have done. With this recording you don't get the atmosphere (or the light show) but you do get to appreciate what a perfect performance it really was. If you're already a Spiritualized fan, this is an essential purchase. Even if you're not a fan, it's well worth checking out - Spiritualized have always been at their best live on stage and this record perfectly captures the essence of the band.

This is a great album for those who found the previous record a bit tame .There's some really fast full on rock which is quite garrage-y and some really slow , mellanchollic songs that are hymn like, with to my ear a very gospel sound . This album doesnt conform to popular taste at all , you can really tell they have released it purely for artistic reasons . It has some very cravy far out space rock which I absoultely love but certainly wouldnt be to everybody's taste , and a strong love/hate preocupation with religion(probably even more so than they're other albums) which is very interesting . So if you like spiritulised's rawer side give it a go you wont be disapointed .

Apologies in advance for sounding like an NME journo, but one of the things I love about this band is their almost classical approach. Jason Pierce has themes that run through his records, and this is particularly the case with Pure Phase. It is music that is not in a hurry for anything, and the length of some of the tracks really gives him time to explore to explore his music. Pure Phase is not really music at all - it's simply an electronic noise which is sort of the aural equivalent of watching Blue - can you see the background changing? Are there shapes in there? I've never been one for the jazz themed white noise thrashouts so beloved of Mr Pierce, but always loved the droney cathedral rock of his earlier days (which I appreciate is just as unmusical to some ears - I absolutely love Pure Phase). Ladies and Gentlemen is undoubtedly his masterpiece (jazz themed white noise thrashouts notwithstanding), but why oh why did I not buy a second copy and keep the first fresh in its pill box? Anyway, post L&G the work declined. Some decent stuff on Let it come down, but I didn't bother with Amazing Grace. This is a return to form. I agree wholeheartedly with the reviewer who said he might need a bit more inspiration when it comes to song titles, but the songs and music are back. I cannot stop listening ... Read More:

When he wrote and recorded the first track on this album, Jason Pierce was touched by genius. It is stunningly beautiful and is the best thing he has ever written. The rest of the album is great but the title track is the one.
