Sorry to go against the flow here, but there seems to be some kind of massive conspiracy to uphold Spiritualized and their music as the greatest thing ever, where this song quite patently isn't. Don't get me wrong, i don't mind Spiritualised when they play to their strengths, (e.g. Cop Shoot Cop, the crazy 20 minute song on Ladies...), but when i heard this song i thought it was a joke. Where do i start? The lyrics are hardly inspiring are they, the singing is awful, and the plodding and predictable bog standard 3-chord major/sub dominant/dominant is frankly laughable, hardly worthy af the tag "musical genius equal to mozart" (see below). Jason Pierce is the master of music full of a kind of intelligent bombast for the thinking man music lover, he does not try to capture something which will wow you in three minutes in the car on the radio, he delicately seduces you to a different world, his world. A place of vice, regret, addiction, pain, but ultimately a sense of passion which is so rare in todays mass produced music industry. Like a bad hangover this song is woozy and whirs but with an endearing sense of musical direction.
