Antonio Carlos Jobim goes down with Lennon/McCartney, Gershwin, Amstrong as one of the most influential songwriter/stylists of the 20th century. To judge the album on its own merits is one thing. Getz turns in small but perfectly formed solos. Astrid Gilberto's voice is ravishing, complementing husband Joao's voice with that incredibly restrained vulnerability that is the essence of Bossa. It is an album of incredible tenderness and instrospection. The studio atmosphere is very intimate with an almost homespun quality. For me its a five star album in its own right. This music album was made in 1963 and it's totally timeless and as fresh in 2008 as when it was first made. I'm 43 and my dad is 70. My 8 year old son and all of us can't get enough of this. Getz's Chega De Saudade (One note samba) is totally the best jazz funk ever and all the other melodies are totally gold as well. You can buy this for yourslef or as a gift for a friend and it's totally priceless - worth a 100 times it's weight in gold. Enjoy!!!!

Massively recommended. These were Getz's final recordings, three months before his death. A duo performance is never easy. The increased workload must have put tremendous strain on his health but you would never know from listening to this exquisite live double CD. Fourteen tracks, culled from four consecutive nights at the Cafe Montmartre in Copenhagen, show Getz at his most majestic. The wonderful Kenny Barron on piano shows complete empathy with Getz, and the interplay between them is perfect. This is exemplified by the ballad 'First Song'. It is a total masterpiece.

This is small group jazz at its very best. After casting off the restraints of the bossa nova years and dabblings in popish fusion stuff, hear Getz doing what he does best - playing gorgeous tenor with some great sidemen. Stan really stretches out here - including a fast 'What Is This Thing Called Love'- but even though it was one of his last recordings, not much of the butter seems to have run out of his tone. He sounds irristable on the opening 'El Cahon' and all throughout the CD he weaves long flowing lines through and around the chords - a masterly show of phrasing. Mention should also be made of Kenny Barron and the rhythm section. They accompany Stan perfectly, diggin in or mellowing out accordingly. Barron further proves himself to be one the very best ... Famous for his wonderful bossa nova recordings, he also made some great music with other jazz masters. This album with the Oscar Peterson Trio is particularly fine. Getz's warm, lyrical tone caresses a collection of great tunes with admirable collaboration from one of the finest trios of all time. The lack of a drummer allows an intimate, relaxed feeling to the proceedings, and the results are seriously enjoyable. Highlights include a swinging "Pennies From Heaven" and beautiful ballad work on "Detour Ahead" and "I'm Glad There Is You". All Getz fans and jazz lovers should investigate this CD without delay.

This has to be Stan Getz at his best. You would be hard-pressed to hear the Tenor Saxophone play this smoothly and with such effortless feeling anywhere else. I can't think of another Jazz Sax player who could have made this album. It is a classic. The lyrical input from Astrud Gilberto and sensuous arrangements by Joau make this album something special. A must-have for all Jazz sax fans.

Great CD to enjoy when you need to relax. Most of these tracks have a magic within. Why only 4 stars you ask? The jazz borders with the easy listening here and that kind of stopped me from giving 5 stars. In any case: buy with confidence, it will not disappoint you.
