I must admit that even if this album was represented in mono, it would still be rated five stars, if you ask me! This album is really a masterpiece and I recommend it to everyone who wants to step into the world of Sting's music.
From "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" at the begining, "Fields of Gold", "Seven Days", "It's Probably Me" (slightly different version than in the Lethal Weapon movie) and "Shape of my heart", almost every song is a candidate for my TOP100 songs ever. Very smooth album which you can listen to in almost every moment - being sad, lonely, happy, nervous, this album will always give you "that something" which will make you listen to it over and over again.
Since this is a DTS 5.1 record, I must refer to the quality ... Read More:

Having moved up to a serious Linn system (Unidisk, Kisto) DVD-A DTS, SACD etc have opened up a whole new world of listening pleasure - I now always look for the surround recordings if I can get it. This is one of my favourite Sting albums. I have a number of DTS disks and this has very good surround but the body/bass of the music seams somewhat lost. You can here the chords but the bass is very light with no guts and I have always rated Sting with some of the finest bass sounds. Yes its a lovely sound but it feels like the've consentrated alot on the surround and forgot to mix back in the beautiful sound of the bass. I put on the DVD-A of 'Ridin with the king' (EC & BBK) just to ensure it wasn't the system - it's a superb ... Read More:

This is a live CD. In my opinion none of the versions of the songs match up to their studio counterparts and in this performance they really don't come over well without the visuals. I have also seen the DVD of this concert which is quite good and you get a much better impression of what the band are trying to convey.

I bought the DVD version because I love the song and the video that goes with it. So, it was a big disappointment to find that the "performance video" is actually Sting, Craig David, backing vocalists and musicians in the studio! The interview was brief and not very illuminating. I wish I'd bought the audio CD version instead.

40.The Soul Cages by: Sting

Music : The Soul Cages
Sting's third solo album (1991) is haunted by the death of his father, who died in 1987 only a few months after that of his mother. It is replete with references to fathers, to the sea, to angels, souls, stars and cages. There are also numerous allusions to his hometown.

The `merely' good tracks are "Island of Souls" (despite opening and closing with the sound of Northumbrian pipes, the song proves ultimately ponderous); the bland jazz-rock "Jeremiah Blues"; the plodding "Why Should I Cry For You?"; and the intermissionary "Saint Agnes & The Burning Train", played on classical guitar, but its dancing sunny Spanish feel seems out of place with the rest of the album.

Far better are the Dylanesque "All This Time" with a ringing ... Read More:
