If I could have just one album in my collection, this would be it. It was my generation's Revolver. It's incisive, celebratory and everything that a good album should be.

Listening to it made me believe that anything in life was possible and a whole world of opportunities were there for the taking. I wasn't alone in playing it on my battered stereo every day for a good two years.

For me it's always been more than a record. It's a life affirming piece of art that will never be bettered.

There are a handful of very good songs - Love Spreads, Breaking into Heaven, Daybreak, Driving South and Ten Storey Long. The rest veers from the pleasant but ultimately disposable to cringe inducingly bad, mostly for the descent into rock cliche that is embarrassing for a group of lads inspired by the punk era and its' values. I guess by the start of the nineties they had lost the hunger, I think we knew that the summer of 1989 were the glory days and when the moment has gone, that's it. They burned brightly but all too briefly.

Listen to songs such as fools gold, waterfall, i wanna be adored and i am the resurrection....these alone are better than any of the gallacher offerings....trust me and buy this!

First off, I'm not a Stone Roses anorak. I didn't really get them at the time and I only ended up buying the beautiful self-titled debut album and the much maligned Second Coming. This album has made me realise just how much I missed out on though. The older singles and B-sides are all amazing, and unlike the Turns To Stone album (which contains a lot of the same material) The Complete Stone Roses includes the somewhat Smiths-ish So Young and the enjoyably brattish Tell Me, both of which give a glimpse of a younger and brasher band.

OK, it's far from "complete" and they could have bothered to include the full length version of Fool's Gold, but quite frankly unless you have the time to trawl through endless record shops and Ebay listings ... Read More:

The Stone Roses are the third best band in the history of rock & roll.
The band discovered by Sounds journalist GARRY JOHNSON are up there with The Sex Pistols and Oasis...
This album is a fantastic collection of classic songs...every home should own a copy...when Garry Johnson wrote the first ever live review in Sounds Magazine he said "This band will be bigger and better than the The Beatles" and he was 100% right.

To refer to The Stone Roses' eponymous masterpiece as "an album" is almost disrespectful. A genuine "work of art", an important slice of musical history, legend and folklore; the catalyst for untold numbers to form bands, listen and understand; these 48 minutes and so-many seconds of melodious magic have become, for many, more of a spiritual experience than "an album".

From the first listen to the 1000th and beyond, who can hear the creeping bass of the intro to "I Wanna Be Adored" without the hairs on the back of their neck standing on end?

Ian Brown's vocals ooze an effortless cool unmatched before or after, casually creating fantastic imagery and delivering lines with a belief that lifts them above arrogance ("kiss me where the sun don't ... Read More:

ok its not the debut but it is freaking fantastic. Stone roses' debut was a master class in jangle pop and sing a long songs, second coming was a great release of hard rck n roll and catchy melodys and this is a combination of both. tracks like fools gold will always be classics and rightly so, but forggoten gems like what the world is waiting for and one love are pure roses.....by this only if youve heard debut and second coming, and if you enjoy either of them, you'll freak for this

I remember when I heard an indie band for the first time in the late 80s, and this album captures that sound exactly. It has that recorded-in-a-warehouse sound, out of tune wailing vocals, and reverb on every instrument...I like things that are indiscernable, and at times on this album you can't hear what the guitar is actually doing, although you can hear that it's there. People who like the first albums by Throwing Muses, Nirvana, Mercury Rev or Jesus & Mary Chain might like this too. I love the aggressive drumming on tracks like "So Young", and the vocals, which are in a way whining and boyish, but to me a very cool slice of genius. Nastier than their later work.

I guess the fact that you're reading a review of this item suggests a certain reluctance on your part to become separated from your hard-earned for an album that by definition isn't going to be as good as the original - you can't improve on perfection, right? My sentiments too, but having taken the plunge, I wasn't disappointed. The remixes presented in this compilation are in the most part refreshing re-workings of some classic roses tracks. Particular highlights include the 808 State mix of 'Made of Stone', Soul Hooligan's 'Shoot you down', the Justin Robertson version of 'Waterfall', and Mint Royales take on 'Elephant Stone'. It won't change your life like the original, eponymous album did, but it might at least help to prolong the life of your rapidly decaying disc, especially ... Read More:
