i first discovered strunz and farah on a whale-watching trip in california and although i never saw any whales their music was worth the trip. it just is so relaxing and exotic, i feel a million miles away from rainy scotland when i listen to it. until now i have been unable to find their music in the uk , so you have really made my day!!

i first discovered strunz and farah on a whale-watching trip in california and although i never saw any whales their music was worth the trip. it just is so relaxing and exotic, i feel a million miles away from rainy scotland when i listen to it. until now i have been unable to find their music in the uk , so you have really made my day!!

This is a reasonably good album, perhaps only flawed in that the duo give in to the temptation to show off their speedy technique too much. I occasionally get the impression that some of S&F's playing on this Live album is fast just for the sake of it, and not because the song requires it, which is a shame. But I suppose people say "if you've got it... flaunt it!" and this is exactly what S&F do here. The extended (12 minute!) version of 'Americas' is the last song on the album, and a suitably impressive way to end it. Fortunately, composition is not completely overlooked, and there are some sensitively done pieces. I have to admit that I'm new to Strunz and Farah, so I can't compare this album to their others. But this album, 'Americas', is pretty good if you like acoustic instrumental guitar music. Although there isn't much of a heavy metal influence (as there is with similar artists like Rodrigo Y Gabriela), these guys blend a mix of styles together. Most noteable here are the Latin and Middle-Eastern themes (perhaps reflecting the duo's ethnic backgrounds). There are about 4 or 5 well composed, catchy songs on this album... the sort that will get your toes tapping, or your head bobbing along with the music. I now own 10 Strunz and Farah CDs, and these guys never fail to deliver the goods. Each album has something about it that's a bit different to things they have done before, and "Rio de Colores" is no exeption to this rule. The dynamic duo, despite being in a class of their own, are also free of egos, and do not shy away from letting other musicians having a bit of limelight - as can be heard in the track "Andina".
