I am not a massive Talking Heads fan, but I love 'Remain in Light' and got this Best-of as well to sample all of their other albums at once. However, I am suspicious that this is not a truely representative selection because the three songs from 'Remain in Light' have been so poorly selected. Surely 'Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On)' and 'Crosseyed And Painless' - absolutely monster tracks - should have taken precedence over the comparatively low-key 'Houses in Motion' and 'This Must be the Place'. Of course, 'Once in a Lifetime' is a shoe-in and appears here in all its glory. Nevertheless, it is poor decisions like this that can make a novice survey the career of a great ... Read More:

Being in the ownership of every studio album the Talking Heads have released, "Remain In Light" is my favourite of them all. If you're new to Talking Heads, I would recommend BUYING THIS ALBUM - it's much more accessible than their more widely-known "Fear Of Music" and yet holds most of the experimental nature of the previous album which serves "Remain In Light"'s brilliance.

The first track, "Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On)" is my favourite Talking Heads song, and the album also features the amazing "The Great Curve" and the widely-accredited "Once In A Lifetime".

Aside from this album, get "Fear Of Music". I'd also reccommend "Naked" - it's underrated and amazing.

after owning this original album and somehow losing it between house moves etc , bought the anniversary edition and it was "welcome back."If you like t.h. this is the band live and at their best , not really a weak song anywhere, naive melody is awesome as are heaven and burning down the house .Don,t think this music ever shows its age and if you,ve not seen the dvd buy it now!

I was a great fan of Talking Heads during the 80's after watching them in concert on TV. The song that's always stayed with me over the years is 'Once in a Lifetime', which is probably their best known track and should be their signature. I bought this CD when I was feeling nostalgic, but I'm so pleased I did - brilliant - I'm still a fan! 'Road to Nowhere', 'Psycho Killer', etc., I can still imagine the young David Byrne in concert as I happily dance around the living room! It's right on top of the pile now and enjoys a very regular play.

This album is full of the complex rhythms and quirky tunes mixed with admittedly bizarre lyrics to make something that works unusually well. If you have listened to a little Talking Heads or own a 'best of' compilation, I would highly recommend this as a must buy album on the way to becoming a full-blown fan. Very infectious!

I was lucky enough to see the Heads live, and this reissue of the early 1980s album was well overdue.Put simply, they were one of the best live bands I've ever heard, and this, especially the second disc, does them justice at last.
The original album has been expanded to include music from the 1978 tours and the full setlist of the 1980-81 band-check the version of "Animals" and "Once in a Lifetime".
Highly recommended, and if you're new to the Heads,it's much better, and better value, than any of the compliations/greatest hits CDs that are on offer.Enjoy!!

The significance of this album for the 80-ties is difficult to underestimate. David Byrne at its best of dada moods hat drew words and phrases to compose one of a kind crystal clear broken English. Speaking in Tongues is fragmented, sound-bited and crazy glued like the then baby walking (and talking) MTV. It goes beyond a punk revolt and flood of Manchester pop, Ravi Shankar's sitar and double drums funk to stir and mesh'em all but, ultimately, to deconstruct the popular music of the decade. Undoubtedly, TH's best and crowning of their artistic path to freedom in the pop's kitsch. After that, it was easier to get on the "Road to Nowehre".

I think I first bought this album in 1979, having been fascinated by hearing Eno's subterranean production on the single of 'Take Me To the River'. I can safely say it changed my life as it inspired me to form a band a become a musician. It's difficult to describe how unique they sounded in the late 70s, when it was all Les Pauls turned up to 11. The only band to compare with them were probably XTC (who they actually toured with).

Tina Weymouth always seems to come in for some slightly sexist flak, but her bass was the propulsion behind the whole unit. When they go off into the funky workout at the end of 'Found A Job', I'd defy anybody to keep still.

With the benefit of hindsight, I can see that the scratchy Fenders and driving basslines were their weird, angular ... Read More:

'Little Creatures' was the first Talking Heads album that was released while I was actually a fan of them. In other words, it was the first album of theirs that I was hoping was going to be good. I was 14. It was brilliant then, and it sounds pretty brilliant today.

What's often underestimated about the Heads is their sheer strangeness. 'Little Creatures' is a highly deceptive album - glossy, precise, beautifully and tastefully played, but entirely without thumping gated reverb, glamorous 80's style digital delay or horrible overdubbage, it sounds weirdly stark and almost puritan next to most other mainstream records of the period. And as for the songs, who the hell knows what 'Give Me Back My Name' is about? 'Television Man' is an anthem in the making that never got played ... Read More:
