Having read some of the reviews here, I am not sure if I will be able to sway prospective buyers one way or the other. I get the feeling that OK is an album that you are going to be very impressed with or find it "okay". However, what I can say about the album is that Talvin Singh is a great producer and collabortor (I am quite a fan of the Madras Philiharmonic Orchestra). Like many others, I too like the up beat Sutrix, I like the slightly more downtempo sound of Butterfly (as heard on so many Cafe Del Mar and Ministry of Sound-esque chill-out CD's). I have been a fan of world fusion for quite a while, and I think OK has done a pretty good job of getting world fusion a wider audience.

What I would like to add is if you are one of ... Read More:

There are just so many different opinions about Talvin Singh's 'Ha' as compared to his previous albums. I'll say at once that, to me, 'OK' most evidently exhibited more musical complexity, ingenuity, groundbreaking styles, and timeless quality than either Anokha (do you even remember tunes therefrom?) or 'Ha'. So back to the topic: What's wrong with 'Ha'? Nothing. If you love hip music made easy-listening, 'Ha' is packed full of these hackneyed tunes that is bound to woo you into delirium. It takes NO EFFORT to like it; musical sensibilities literally ooze from Track 1 to 11. Therein lies the only pitfall - because it is so radio-friendly, 'Ha' inevitably lacks the same musical depth, inventiveness, style and endearing quality of 'OK'. 'Ha' ... Read More:

Very good performing by Joanna, and such a lovely, no inspired selection of pieces! I really love this CD - BUT, the production quality really lets this down!!!! Don't listen to this CD with headphones - this is not overly critical as it really interferes with the enjoyment of this otherwise excellent CD. just a plea to record labels to get the recording right to do justice to the performer, and also the music!

I have listened to this in many places and consistently enjoy the music, balance of one track to the next and quality of production. Only skip two tracks in centre. Must buy more of his work.

I resisted buying this during an earlier wave of purchases at amazon.co.uk, but, the choice having been paired-down after subsequent waves, I did end up buying this eventually. There are only three or four decent tunes on the whole thing. Most of the music is very bland and lifeless. Lots of nice samples of indian instruments and percussion, but lacking bite and energy.

The Tabla Beat Science CD is much better (although completely different) - proper tabla beats mixed expertly into some proper gritty breaks, with plenty of intelligence. You will want to dance to Tabla Beat Science, not this.

However, Osmani Sounds' "Spiritual Master Key" stands out here, not as a fusion of eastern and western musics, but as a fusion of eastern and ... Read More:

Music : Master Musicians of Joujouka
Firstly , I will buy anything from Talvin. I have always found the more afro sound of Gnawa more listenable than the Berber 'shwaram' sound of the mountain tribes of Morocco - but Talvin has found the perfect middle ground between his London based asian/D&B tabla music and the raw sound of Joujouka in this recording. He does not shirk from the challenge to fuse an electro 21st century funk onto this deeply traditional music, and produces a musical gem rather than a bastard child.
