I'm one of these strange people that listens to a CD half-heartedly right through until I hear that one song that makes me sit up, and want to listen to each song individually. With both the Taproot albums, I have found each song to be one of those 'sit up and listen' ones. Track one, "Smile" is attractive in the fact that the lyrics themselves, are happy, cheerful ones, yet with a dark, trashing and often semi-violant guitar! The irony becomes almost beautiful. It's one of these albums that you can just whack in the CD player, and depending on your mood, come out with several different conclusions to each song. I first got into taproot after buying their debut album 'gift' when it first came out after a string of great reviews, i was not disappointed! There second album 'Welcome' came out and i heard the song 'poem' and liked it but never ended up buying the album, I should have because I lost years not being able to listen to this great band. Because I had no clue that 'Blue sky research' had come out I was more than happy when i found it on the amazon market place for around £2, a bargain indeed. It is nothing like 'gift' and really not much like' welcome' either, they still have some great crushing guitar riffs, but I would have to say that taproot have become more 'mainstream'.
