Had to leave a review as i nearly didnt buy this , seeing all the low feed back. Thought it would be average at best.
Well bought it anyway ,on the strength of The Legacy and New Order , it is Testament after all ! Brilliant album , blew me away , played over & over ! Also check out The Ritual , another superb album that gets average reviews , go figure !

I aint a massive fan off this album, i prefer their later albums e.g Low, but this have some killer stuff on like Alone In The Dark & Burnt Offerings & Over The Walls. The songs here sound a bit too similar. This is a great album to listen to in full but the songs seperatley are only O.K. Though Alone In The Dark is an amazing song. I am kind off a new fan off testament as i only have 3 albums off their my first being low. If you buy one testament album you'll end up wanting alot more, as when you first hear 'em you'll never stop loving their music. I think their influence is obvious because in Burnt Offerings, you can clearly hear the solo from metallicas disposable heroes which usually isn't a bad thing but here it just annoys me for some reason. ... 'The New Order' is an amazing album. Simple as. In my opinion, better than there amazing debut album 'The Legacy'. Every track is great (exept the instrumentals, but they are good when listening to the album as a whole.) Even there cover of Aerosmith's 'Nobodys Fault' is a great track. In my books, better than the original. Testament have released so many good albums that its hard to pick a top one but I would defiently recomend this to someone who's just discovered the band. 5/5 with ease!!!

4.Souls of Black by: Testament

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Music : Souls of Black
The begining of the end an acoustic almost spanish sounding intro sweeping with ease into Face in the Sky which is one of the pioneering tracks on the album. This track sets you up for what to expect on the rest of the album with each track flowing seemlessly together. On Souls Of Black, Falling Fast & Absence Of Light Chuck Billy is on top vocal form with a haunting sustain in his voice accompanied by textured riffs 1/2, 3rd and 4th beat thrashy snares, and punchy basslines this album truly is in my personal opinion on par with 'Reign in Blood', 'Rust In Peace' and 'Master Of Puppets' as the be all and end all of the thrash metal movement

Truly Perfect album that flows like a reservoir

Worth a place in any metal fans collection. ... Read More:

I know that sometimes the word underrated can be overused but if you have never heard of Testament, then trust me when I say that they really are one of the most underrated metal bands of all time.

Out of all the thrash bands, if I was forced to say which one they sound like most I would probably say Metallica but only a little, apart from this they have a very original style of sound that is hard to explain. I know that there is always a band that will always be a bigger mainstream success in whatever type of music it is and thrash is no different, I really don't know why Testament weren't bigger than they were not that it bothers me personally as they are right up alongside my favourite metal bands of all time, this is a huge compliment from me considering my huge music ... A typical end-of-80s thrash album in that, as with many bands (Slayer, Megadeth, etc) Testament realised they had to take their foot off the gas to progress, as the competition for speed had already been won by a Slayer landslide in '86.
Of the tracks on the album only Nightmare really earns the 'thrash' label; the rest being largely upper-mid-tempo steamhammers, living by heaviness, and (dare I say it,) melody, rather than speed.
The production lacks the clarity and momentum of the first release, but the songs can more than hold their own.
Better by miles than the subsequent Souls in Black album,, and for my money on a par with the faster fore-runner The New Order, but newcomers would be better directed to either the debut 'Legacy' or the latest 'Gathering' to really ... Read More:

Thankfully this albulm was bought for me as a gift, because if it had been otherwise i would have been kicking myself very hard many times. The only beef is with the DVD, as one review has already stated it contains short footage of the band doing some studio stuff which is neither interesting nor enjoyable. Skolnick does a solo at one point and that's cool but not worth an extra three pounds, plus you can see it on youtube anyways. My advice is buy this special edition if you are a fetishist who enjoys the fancy packaging, otherwise just buy the CD.

Speaking on the CD i admit i was expecting a bit more, but i have only listened through once and that was enough to impress me greatly. The tracks have some really catchy riffs and the solos are blindingly good, but you can't expect ... Read More:
