A 2 CD set of 33 tracks. CD 1 is called the Singles Collection and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Brilliant stuff! What I would describe as beaty, catchy, semi-acoustic songs with a great 60's feel to them. Jacqueline and Put the Sun Back were particular favs but there isn't a weak song here at all. This CD will stay in the car a long time. The second CD is called Mysteries and Rarities. A more mixed bag in terms of musical styles. Diehard fans will probably love it but I found some tracks making me want to hit the skip button pretty quickly. This may be unfair - I've only listened to CD 2 a few times - and perhaps they'll grow on me with time. I do hope so.

The Coral have really found their sound on this album. By far the finest piece of work they have produced to date. A classic.

'The Coral' appealed to me immediately, with their off-the-wall tales of pirating, maurauding, love, drugs and general tomfoolery, though it took me a few listens before I truly appreciated the depth and craft of this unbelieveably brilliant album. The lyrics read like twisted fables (see 'Simon Diamond' and 'I Remember When') but with plenty of panache and confession to get their message across. This, incidentally, appears to be how crazy it is to live in our crazy world! But The Coral display impressive emotional accessibility behind the tangle of musical influences and general lunacy. This is best reflected in the simple but wonderful 'Dreaming Of You', which is as perfect a song as you can get. But 'Skeleton Key' has an awesome tempo ... Read More:

Well, the coral do have some very attractive songs, but I find this album a let down. It's not got a real flare, or anything to make you feel something big about it. Not bad, but not really a must have.

This recording was made in a small village church in Spain, well known for its wonderful accoustics. If any classical music lover can fail to enjoy this, it's beyond my understanding. Does the fact that José Carreras is a world famous opera star give everything he sings a touch of glamour which lessens the originality of, as in this case, the Argentinian and Hispano-American regional rythms? Actually both Argentina, Bolivia and Peru are referred to in the introduction inside the CD cover. In my opinion it's the simple songs - I have heard him in relatively unknown Spanish and German very soft and peaceful songs - which show Carreras at his best. So also in Misa Criolla. As with all Coral albums, it takes me a few listens to genuinely appreciate how good the music is. 1st listen - sounds OK but a bit up and down; 2nd & 3rd listens - There's a few stand out tracks in there. After that it all seems to make sense and the whole ablum merges and flows. Reminds me of Rattus Norvegicus by The Stranglers in places ( particularly Arabian Sand)
