[One CD, with a running time of 78:22] This collection of Moody Blues hits would better be called, "The Moody Blues Through The Years." The songs run from their early Go Now (1964), through I Know You're Out There Somewhere (1988). Along the way, we get the touching Isn't Life Strange, the haunting Forever Autumn, the radiant The Voice, and many other great songs.

My one and only complaint is that Nights In White Satin is included without Graeme Edge's spellbinding poem Late Lament. I have always found that poem to be a fantastic epilogue to the song. But that's such a minor complaint. This is a great CD, and well worth the money.

By the way, the sleeve includes a one or two-sentence story of each song, and a conversation ... Read More:

I am an avid Moody Blues fan and bought this album last Christmas. I have since bought another copy for my wife. Like many other fans, I wasn't sure just how they would handle Christmas songs but I needn't have worried. They give every song their own unique, professional treatment and have such restful voices. I love this album and particularly December Snow, which I would rate as good as any track they have ever done (yes, as good as that!) If you like the Mooody Blues, or even if you are just looking for a good Christmas album, buy this! I couldn't believe how cheaply it was purchased from Amazon and I rarely stop playing it during the season.

Some truly awesome music lies within, though sadly alongside some other material of lesser worth (typical!). Primarily, the strengths lie at the beginning and the end, with the tracks `In The Beginning' (far-out), `Lovely To See You' (summery rock), and `Dear Diary' at the start, and the final (best) 5: `Are You Sitting Comfortably?' (mellow), `The Dream' (atmospheric - spoken - chemically-induced?), `Have You Heard (Parts 1 & 2)' (easy, beautiful!), and `The Voyage' (awesome instrumental), being the stand out tracks - admittedly, over half the album!
This is easy music to trip along to, being mellow, atmospheric, gentle, and slightly trippy; not anywhere near as orchestral as their previous (wonderful) offering - `Days Of Future Passed' (superb ... Read More:

After the orchestral concept that was 'Days of future past', the Moody's stripped back to basics for this follow up album. Shorter songs, still in the psychedelic pop/rock mode of the time, with all of the band sharing writing duties. My personal favourites are the Justin Hayward numbers with 'Voices in the sky' being the albums stand out track, but there is something for everyone on here, including Graeme Edge's poems.

It states in the sleeve notes that thirty three different instruments were used on this album, try finding them, it adds to the enjoyment.

Unlike many of their contemporaries, the Moody Blues could easily fill an exceptionally good double album with their "Best of" - and still leave some tracks missed out. I too bought a Moody Blues Compilation on vinyl and was desparate to listen to it on CD.

The main reason I wanted to write this review is to emphasise that the two tracks above listed "London Festival Orchestra" are not instrumentals - they are just the backing for the main tracks.

If you have heard "Nights in White Satin" on the TV or radio - buy this album: the rest of the album is also top notch.

Incidentally, Barclay James Harvest recorded a track called "Poor Mans Moody Blues" - as BJH are no mean band, this is some compliment.

Having heard Live Plus Five, I had a good idea of what to expect from this CD as the set list was similar having been recorded about a year later.
A mixed bag, and I agree with the negative and positive reviews of the album.
Yes, the vocals are strained at times and the harmonies a bit wobbly. Yes there are times when the mellotron goes wobbly (either that or the master tape is at fault. I think it's the mellotron though!)
The sound quality is alright but not pristine.
and yet. . . and yet. . .
Where this scores over the later live albums of the 1990's and 2002 is that this captures the Moodies at a time when they were at their creative peak and the songs were new and fresh (the oldest songs here were only 3 years old at the time). This means ... Read More:
