Not another Orb album I hear you cry, but wait. This one is actually quite good. It is a compilation of the live BBC sessions they did between 89 and 01 and is probably more of a companion to "Evil Orb" than any studio album. The Orb were always an inventive live act, mixing up samples and bass lines, and some of the tracks here are so different as to be better than the album versions. That is just my opinion though. Hilights are the liner notes by Kirs Needs, the cover of the Stooges "No Fun" and a great "Towers of dub".

Set phasers to stun and fasten your seatbelts. Psychonauts stand by!!! This is a classic album and I think one of the defining soundtracks of modern club life. A staple survival tool for late night/early dawns.

Having listened to Adventures beyond the Ultraworld until I knew every note - I wondered if any future album would live up to this benchmark. There have been some really memorable pieces of work since then which I won't repeat where others have. Until now..... This album sums up how far The Orb have travelled and for me that is full circle. This album contains rich textures and a warm foot tapping feeling rather than being creative and isolated as with earlier albums. Plenty of rhythmic beats and bass. Tracks such as High Noon, A beautiful day and The truth is are exceptional. Yes there are plenty of vocals which also work really well. This album is unquestionably one of the best Electronica records ever made... You simply cannot be an electronic music fan without owning this CD. If for some unknown, crazy reason you don't own it, BUY IT IMMEDIATELY! A timeless classic... 10/10

The best place to start for anyone thinking of buying an Orb record as it's got most of their best tunes edited down to a nice length and offers one classic after another. Even if you already own the albums it's still worth getting this 'best of'. My one complaint is that there's no tracks from Orbus Terrarum (aside from having Oxbow Lakes as a secret track) which is a shame as it would be nice to hear a radio edit of Slug Dub. Still an essential purchase.

Q. Do you like the Orb?? If yes, drop whatever your doing rush out with wallet and buy this album right now. Any true Orb fan can not afford to be without this album. Standout tracks include, the Nobel prize mix of Mike Oldfield's Sentinal, Pounding beats over whirling atmospheric sounds and over 12 minutes long, this one is timeless. Lisa Stansfield's time to make you mine is taken to another level, the only description I can give of this track is SEXY!!! You've also got the classic Blue danube remix of the KLF's 3am eternal, the mental bassline's of Meat Beat manifesto's Radio Babylon and Tubeway Army's Jo the waiter, and the infectious rhythms of Tangerine Dreams Towards the evening star. The Orbs' Adventures.. The KLF's White Room The KLF's (The JAMMS) Chillout Orbital's Brown Album The Prodigy's Experience are the only albums that stood out for me from the late 80's/early 90's drug fueled, carefree, acid/warehouse illegal rave days, sadly those days are long gone for me but these albums will always be around to celebrate that loved up generation that lasted for 5 years. As for the album it's good and stuff (its all been written in the other more intelligent reviews)

One of the most significant ambient albums of the nineties, Orbus Terrarum represents a journey across a landscape in the form of sound, with each track signifying a different terrain feature. The journey begins in the lush, dense ravine of 'Valley', with it's heavy rolling bass, gradually rising up into the airy, open spaces of 'Plateau', before descending again into the aquatic chimes of 'Oxbow Lakes'. The 'landscape as sound' theme is seemingly abandoned toward the end of the album, with an epic dub workout, 'Slug Dub', instead providing the finale, with humourous, if slightly sinister samples of a childrens' story about lettuce being eaten by 'nasty' slugs. Quite different from all the Orb's other albums, but definitely a classic.

Well, I've only been listening to this album for a day now and I already love it. Although its not the Orb's best album (a la U.F.Orb), it has some quality tracks on it e.g. the big beats of Ubiquity, the techno-ness of Asylum, the bounciness of Toxygene (which wasn't commisioned from Jean Michel Jarre, that was just a joke made by the band). Also, the album has an obvious oriental quality to it, which also helps me like it because I like parts of Chinese/Japanese music. If you're an Orb fan add it to your collection, if you haven't heard them try U.F.Orb or Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld first, and if you don't like them then...what are you reading this for? Buy and Bye.
