I think the title ive chosen to head my review says it all.Xanadu the album(ELOs contributions only)is more of what we've come to expect from the greatest band of all time.The other songs on the album vary in quality between not bad and down right awful.DO NOT!!!! buy this album then think to yourself"He's full of it,these songs are great,im buying the film"cos this atitude will only leave you however many pounds,dollars whatever lighter in the pocket and have taken up 90 minutes of you.re life you'll never get back.so In conclusion get the album,dont follow this up by seeing the movie.

I can't believe that it is 30 years since this was recorded. I am proud to say that I was at one of the shows at the Hammersmith Odeon, and wow, that really was a show. I can't really add much more than the previous reviewers, other than why isn't this album ever mentioned on these so called lists of "Best Live Albums"? The recording itself is balanced nicely, and the first track, the "Overture" slides in brilliantly with a hint of the "Jaws" theme. Nicely done. This is my favourite Tubes album.

The Tubes gained their early kudos from their ingenious, satirical stage shows, which, like all visual comedy doesn't have the same impact on record. Like its predecessor, 'Remote Control', this album takes a more listener-friendly approach. The title contains much irony, as critics were quick to point out that The Tubes had gone artistically backward. The co-credit for Toto guitarist Steve Lukather on 'Talk To Ya Later' is a giveaway as to the direction the band were headed in. 'Don't Want To Wait Anymore' is a ballad from that school of rock, though, to be fair, the rest of the songs, though overtly commercial, are a lot more sprightly. The songs are of uneven quality. Another album I had on vinyl now on CD. The Tubes were a pretty anarchic lot from what I remember of them. Their original shows were as theatrical as they were musical and chainsaws featured somewhere. I know Fee Waybill was hospitalized as a result of one show. This album has as its central theme Television, American. Back in the 70's UK TV could perhaps hold its head up but with some notable exceptions has in the last few years become dumbed down to US levels. This album is not a rant against TV but describes the status quo of the time and serves as a warning. Compare this approach with Zappa's rather more direct "I'm the Slime" from the Overnite Sensation album. There are some great tracks on this album and there is not a weak one anywhere. Despite rumours to the contrary, the Tubes were actually a highly talented group of musicians masquerading as a punkish band of anthem-makers. And no late 70's anthem was ever more grandiloquent, nor so ridiculously catchy as White Punks On Dope. And it sounds fresh to this day, testament to the longevity of well-crafted pop songs. It's all here from Space Baby, Up From The Deep, White Punks On Dope, Don't Touch Me There, Mondo Bondage, Tubes World Tour....I could go on forever.
