I bought this cd because Amazon offered it as a double deal for under a tenner! I loved the last song - Somewhere over the Rainbow and thought why not treat yourself to it, it costs nothing! Anyway,it is such a beautiful collection and I totally love it. Very relaxing to listen to but in no way boring, it lulls you, then teases you, then absorbs you - superb. I think it allows you to have a glass of wine and ponder or as I just did peel the potatoes and ponder!!! There's more than one gem on this cd - it is a collection of gems. Treat yourself!

I have never been into classical music, however the TV programs Maestro and Last Choir standing (I know trash TV... sorry) made me realise I did like some classical music. So time to test that theory, and of course this CD fitted the bill perfectly, a bit of everything and 99% you will probably know. Good album, maybe I may have discovered culture :-)

Most soundtracks only work in the context of the film or program that spawned them, and even then a lot are only half-baked rehashes of someone else's more original score. Not this one, though. Thomas Newman has composed a sountrack of incredible invention and subtlety, which can be enjoyed in it's own right. Hell, even a walk through Liverpool city centre became a bit mystical, accompanied by this on the ipod and decent sound cancelling earbuds! A fabulous piece of music.

I know that some people were disappointed with the film from which this soundtrack comes. I enjoyed the film but always felt that the music was almost too good - it stood out so much that it was almost a distraction. Some years later and having just bought this second hand through the amazon market place I am pleased to say that it still sounds great.

Like a lot of orchestral movie soundtracks, not every track is one you would choose to re-listen a lot, but at least half the stuff here is fab - gentle piano and strings. Plus, they have included a couple of band performances from the songs actually played in the background during the film AND the last track is a piano duet between Tom Hanks and Paul Newman, taken directly from the film.

I was first introduced to Gilbert and Sullivan by my mother who, when I was 13, took me to see D'Oyly Carte perform MIKADO in Plymouth in 1963. From that moment I was hooked. At that time we did not have a record player, but despite this, I was able to remember the majority of the music and lyrics and a good portion of the dialogue and the actual staging.

In 1965 we bought a record player and at the first opportunity I travelled into Exeter. MIKADO was not in stock at the only classical specialist of those days so I parted with three pounds five shillings (£3.25) and bought this recording of IOLANTHE.

No doubt now that I was hooked, for despite the fact that this work is a very different work to MIKADO, within days I knew every note and every ... Read More:

As a huge fan of the film, excuse me if my review comes across as any way biased.

The soundtrack in my opinion is brilliant, but I had to ask myself does it suit as a stand alone CD, without the view of the movie. I would have to say no. There is no doubt that if you have seen the movie and remember the images the soundtrack will fit brilliantly and sound great, because in the film the music compliments it beautifully and there is no doubt Thomas Newman's ability to write music for film, but that is exactly it for a film, whereas American beauty was melodic, and smooth all the way through, the jarhead soundtrack has a very wide range of music, which you may love as I do, or you may hate. If you’re a fan of the movie and looking for something that ... Read More:

8.Classical Chillout 2 by: Cambridge King's College Choir, Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, William Orbit, Philharmonia Orchestra

Music : Classical Chillout 2
Basically, this album does what it says on the tin; it's a collection of short classical pieces that are soothing on the ear. So far, so common. But what I enjoyed particularly about this album was the eclectic nature of some of the pieces, particularly the inclusion of Izzy's "Going Home" and Batt's "Love in Slow Motion".

Both CDs offer a good mix of the old and well loved (e.g. Bach's "Sheep May Safely Graze"), and newer, and perhaps less familiar pieces. And I can't be the only Harry Potter fan pleased to find John Williams's score here!

All in all, I found this to be an enjoyable and well put together compilation, and I would recommend it if you are looking for a chillout CD that is slightly out of the ordinary.

I've looked all over the highstreet for this soundtrack but to no avail, so once again it's amazon.co.uk to the rescue. After finally recieving the CD it was well worth the wait.
37 tracks is excellent value for money, each one pulsating with imagination and full of Thomas Newmans patented emotive vision for the classic adaptation of the four part story by Stephen King. Trust me, the track Coffey on the Mile is worth the £10 alone. Buy it. Enough said.
