This is a great album because it encorporates everything you've loved from their previous three albums, and blends them all into an alloy of wonderous metal. It has the powerful choruses of Ascendancy and the riffage from the Crusade. The Metallica-wannabes has been discarded for definite on this album, they have stamped this record with a recognisable sound of their own.

This is a definite contender for album of the year in my eyes, highlights include Down From the Sky and Throes of Perdition. Oh, and the DVD version is well worth getting, it has a making of feature of the guys in the studio recording the album, bonus tracks which include 'Iron Maiden' and a guitar masterclass from Matt and Corey.

Enjoy!!

Trivium are back with there strongest set of songs yet. Ascendancy is awesome The Crusade they went all Metallica on us and although it went Top Ten on it's release it wasn't a great album, however then Shogun came out and all i'm saying is this buy it, they've gone back to the old days and i've never Matt's full vocal range before from a growl to a scream and everything in between! the musicanship on this album is also amazing my fave tracks on this CD is Down From The Sky and the 12 min title track Shogun. All in all this a fantastic album it will blow your mind and your speakers any metal fan should have this in their collection.

I was never a massive Trivium fan, but thought that Ascendancy was a very good album.
I bought this one as I also kinda liked the first two singles, which looking back was very much in a pop music sense, rather than music to take seriously and really get into.
I really can't stress enough how awful the lyrics are on this album. I found them quite embarassing, the kind of music you wouldn't want anyone else to hear you listening to. Lyrics like 'for you honour, you will slaughter, every one of your daughters' and 'a coffin made of your deceptions' are all too much for me to bear. Not to mention the track 'This World Can't Tear Us Apart'. Cheesy.
The music itself is quite .... empty in comparison to Ascendancy too.
I give it two ... Read More:

First off i'm sick off people saying Trivium and Bullet for My Valentine arn't real metal just because they dont like 'em, and before people start calling me emo my top 5 bands are Iron Maiden, Slayer, Manowar, Megadeth & Metallica. This is a mindblowing album fair enough if you don't like the shouting through the whole album that's understandable, but i never was really into the whole shouting vocals but this is an amazing album with some killer solos. This album is really heavy aswell and obviously influenced by thrash metal. I have no favourite songs but if i had to pick one it would be Pull The Strings & Declaration they are amazing. The vocalist does have a good range of vocals he has a decent voice. If you do hate the shouting vocals i suggest buying ... Read More:

I decided to get this since i have The Crusade and Ascendancy and i loved them both, this Is a great debut but it's just not as good as their other albums. The best tracks are Fugue Revelations, To Burn The Eye & My Hatred. You can deffinetly hear the metallica influences on this album. The music is brilliant but the vocals are a bit annoying especially the melodic vocals they can be really annoying. Worth getting if you have Ascendancy.

This product tells you about the band.... who really cares enough to buy a cd about it.....
I only bought it because I didn't bother reading any details about the product and assumed it was music. Oh well hey, won't fall for that one again....

With this album Trivium show two things:

1)That with some good production and a respected record label, you can make an album much better than your minor label debut (although Ember to Inferno is still a great album).

2)They prove (along with Bullet for my Valentine) that 'metalcore' doesn't have to be lame with a camp frontman dancing around screaming like a 3 year-old girl.

This special edition is much better than the regular version becuase of the bonus DVD with part of a live concert and some music videos. I will come to that later. First, lets do a track run through of the CD:

The End of Everything - An instrumental opener with lots of dark-sounding piano and classical guitar. 5/10

Rain - The first 'proper' song ... Read More:

Music : Anthem (We Are the Fire)

I'm really in two minds as to what rating this deserves, on the one hand if taken as a serious attempt at heavy (Heafy?) metal this warrants about a very low score. However, I'm a big fan of Bad News and Spinal Tap and to me Trivium are just the same its just they don't realise it yet. So this is quite enjoyable as on a purely comic level. Well, I say Trivium are the same as Bad News and Tap but Nigel Tufnel and Vim Fuego had the common decency to not hide their complete lack of musical prowess behind pro tools (except when Vim edited the solo from `Whole Lotta Love' into `Bad News').

The guitar work here is simultaneously the best and worse thing about this single. On the one hand it's a immensely enjoyable display of pointless meandering "Marty Friedman with a really bad hangover" ... Read More:
