Music : Rat in the Kitchen
After the comparative lack of impact of "Geffery Morgan" and the collection of dub tracks "Bagarridim", UB40 put out what was, to many at the time, "just another album from poor old UB40", a band who were seen as heading nowhere fast. Actually, "Rat In The Kitchen" is a fresh, vibrant album that shakes off the inhibitions provided by "Geffery Morgan"'s reliance of synthesuised percussion and dancehall grooves and is highly listenable and surprisngly infectious, hailing from 1986, a time when UB40, album-wise, were deemed to have lost it.

"All I Want To Do" is a horn-driven upbeat opener that wouldn't have sounded out of place on "Present Arms"; as indeed is "You Could Meet Somebody" (despite the synth drums); "Tell It LIke It Is" ... Read More:

before they settled into a blander niche, ub40 were a mighty british reggae band with the avowed intention of bringing dub into the charts and the mainstream. how they succeeded! tyler, king, food for thought and burden of shame were heartfelt political statements of their time set to infectious grooves, weird echoey dubs and ali`s unique vocals. the standout track has to be "madam medusa" which is the finest anti-thatcher record ever(they encored with it at glastonbury 1983 a few days after the tories election victory, introducing it as more relevant than ever), almost 13 minutes long with one of the longest and most atmospheric dubs ever committed to record- simply outstanding and worth the price of the cd on it`s own. signing off is simply one of ... I am a longtime UB40 fan and absolutely LOVE the new album! The sounds are soulful and inspiring.... My favs on the album are "Who You Fighting For?", "Bling Bling", "War Poem" & "Good Situation". I appreciate all that UB40 puts into an album. The attention to every audible detail is phenomenal. UB40 you make my heart happy! :-)

Music : Labour of Love Vol.1 & 2
I bought this album in 1994 and I have to say it was the best album I ever bought, It has all the best UB40 songs on it(except 1 in 10 which is a little disappointing) like Please don't make me cry, Sweet sensation, Jonny too bad, Version girl, Many rivers to cross, Way you do the things you do and my personal favorite Kingston town plus of course Red, red wine and loads more wicked tracks. It is definately an album I can listen to again and again and if I get the chance to get it on CD I will because I've listened to the tape that much I've just about worn the tape out. The best thing about UB40 is you don't have to be a big fan of the old style reggie to enjoy this album. It really does deserve 10 out of 10 and five stars.

Is great to hear any live song of this band, cause they are very carrefully to play it well, and introduce new stuff to the song. This is a record that show, in my opinion, the best time of UB40 carrer. The songs are full of joy, ridding and beat, that give you a sensation that this guys realy love to play togheter. All the songs are deeply linked with reggea roots, but they give a very `pop` look, that i belived it's because the way that horns sound... and is far, yet, from raggamuffim ou dancehouse. This album is like a dot in history...

40.Homegrown by: UB40

Music : Homegrown
Homegrown certainly is an apt title. And this proves to be a big album from an important band.
This latest collection throws classic ub40 rhythms from all angles. So destructive is simply dub at its best, rich with an ethnic vibe only a British band from the inner city can produce. Sure they have been around over 20 years, but one never loses sight of where one is from. Nothing with out you shows the band continue to push forward musically and is rough enuff to pacify dancehall cravings. Someone like me and I knew you are vintage 40 with deep bass drum lines, and the tightest horn section this side of balsall heath. Earl's vocal on Freestyler provides a perfect opportunity to display the concious lyrics for which the band are famed. Ali Campbell is easily ... Read More:
