I remember the first time I heard this album on good old vinyl. Technology has moved on and when I listen to it now on this remastered edition I think you hear it how you were supposed to back in 1980. Turn the volume up on western promise and be prepared to be blown away. Every track is outstanding and the extra tracks are well hearing.

Rage in Eden: Remastered Definitive Edition

Forget the New Romantics, forget Duran and Spandau...this was how it really was..The Cult with no name...Futurism..there we no frilly shirts here.

Rage In Eden was the second album of the Midge Ure era and without doubt the best...the album was produced by Conny Plank and the intensity of the creative process at his studio gives the album the feel of a complete piece of work, no fillers no last minute additions...it is what is says on the box "Definitive" in every sense of the word.

And now after so long away Ultravox will Return to Eden...Vox Your Socks Off!

A superb selection of many of ULTRAVOX's best songs, the ones that represented their breakthough into mainstream acceptance and subsequent commercial success. VIENNA remains the benchmark album and saw the arrival of MIDGE URE (so if you only own one complete Ultravox recording, make it that one). There's no doubt that his keen pop sensibility and impressive vocal range steered the band away from their previous Kraftwerkian experimentalism, infusing it instead with a warmth and depth that lasted for several more years.

Lyrically and musically, this is Ultravox at their peak, IMHO.

Midge Ure & Chris Cross finally put down some lyrics that make you think 'that's what I'm feeling too'. White China looks forward to the return of Hong Kong to China, One Small Day celebrates the little victories we all have, Dancing with Tears in my Eyes describes the terror a nuclear war would bring, whilst Lament moves with simplicity. Man Of Two Worlds is inspired by the rugged Scottish heartlands and the battles fought with the English. Heart of the Country speaks of betrayal by the motherland. When the Time Comes is a defiant end of a love affair lyric, whilst A Friend I Call Desire accurately moves through the affect of desire on a relationship.

I remember this album being released and being rated only 1* material by Robin Smith in the Record Mirror - it is sadly lacking in objectivity to allow a heavy metal enthusiast to review an album overflowing with electrosynth melody and classical overtones. From the moment that you first flip this disc, you are onto a winner. Reap The Wild Wind was the show opener on the 'Monument' tour and is a fitting start to this album. Despite being only an album track, 'Serenade' is certainly my favourite song on this LP - accomplished and catchy - play it to your kids and they will demand piano lessons. The guitar riffs in Mine For Life transport you back to the pre-Ure era and Hymn is a song to sing along to. Visions in Blue is technically the best work that Ultravox ... Read More:

Foxx punk! yes the Matamatic man himself rocking, boy this rocks! Don't judge on the musical releases from 1979/80/81 on this album. Johns path eventually went electonic and he ditched the high energy punk which gradually phased into the final utravox album "Systems of Romance" and a "glimmer" in johns words of things to come.

The Voice, released in May 2001, is Russell Watson's debut album and marks the end of his progression from the pub and club circuit, and the start of his recording career after signing with the Decca label.

The album hit No.1 in the UK Classical charts and reached No.5 in the UK Album Chart. Following its release in the US it also hit the top spot, making history as the first time a British artist has topped both the UK and US Classical Charts, and if that wasn't enough, it was awarded `Album of the Year' and 'Best Selling Classical Album' at the Classical BRIT awards in 2001.

The songs are a mix of classical and popular, with the emphasis on the classics to enable its eligibility for that chart: 60% of the playing time must consist ... Read More:

This is an album of two extreme styles: hard-driving guitar music that's clearly influenced by the punk rock of 1977, its year of release, and the icy, electronic soundscapes a few years ahead of their time. I remember the catchy, primal rhythm of 'Rockwrok' from the time of its release, together with John Foxx's Lydonesque sneer. The next two tracks follow suit and there's even a '1-2-3-4' opening to 'Fear In The Western World', yet 'The Frozen Ones' deceptively begins with some eerie keyboard. More bizarre is 'Distant Smile', which starts with two and a half minutes of Eno-like ambient piano before the band explode into life yet again.
They then seem to shake off the punk influence. 'The Man Who Dies Every Day' is an especially memorable song couched in an impassioned ... Read More:

After the hit 'n miss debut album and the punky, raucous second album, Ultravox finally defined their sound with Systems of Romance - and delivered the masterpiece of which we knew they were capable .

Systems will be remembered by most as the last Foxx album but it's also first time the band worked with German producer Conny Plank and in him Ultravox appear to have found a kindred spirit, someone who could help them create their remarkable blend of electronic, experimental and traditional instrumentation. It's surely no coincidence that Plank oversaw all of the band's best work (and U-Vox, but we'll quickly skip over that).

Despite the fact that this album was years ahead of its time, its sound was, and is still, very commercial, packed with hooks and riffs and all ... Read More:

I myself being an Ultravox fan during the Midge Ure days and seeing the band at the hammy odeon this CD brought back memories. I forgot how good it was, I must say this is their peak of Creativity IMHO.
Love Astradyne for starters, But I cant single a track out for praise as there are all brilliant , even the Bonus tracks which I have as B Sides are great. I suppose Ultravox will always be remembered for Vienna and that Video of course. The other albums were good especially Rage in Eden, Not quite as good but almost.
