It's strange to see how split opinions are on this album but I'm sure David Coverdale would rather elicit strong views either way than just have everyone say "Yes, it's okay I suppose".

Personally I wasn't overly impressed when I first played it. In fact I was very disappointed. However, as Whitesnake played such an important role in my musical development I persevered for a couple more listens and boy am I glad I did. While it is not perfect, it is still a very strong addition to the catalogue. I'd advise those of you who binned it earlier to revisit it and you might just realise that you made a mistake.

I don't think that there can be any doubt that this is the best collection that Whitesnake has put out and captures the feel of early Whitesnake and the rock and bluesy feel perfectly. The really great thing about this record is that whilst it does have a very smooth blues feel, it can appeal to those of us who tend towards the heavy rock end of the scale. DC's voice is simply magnificent and the band as a whole meld together like they were made for each other, unlike the reality of being DC's paid up workmen. My particular favorite part is the Love Hunter solo by Micky Moody, which is still one of my favourite guitar pieces ever. Slide guitar done supremely well. Of course DC had ambitions to do much more with Whitesnake and a collection of middle aged geezers ... Read More:

I was atttracted to this album after listening to "Here I Go Again" and bought this album a few weeks later. Initially I just listened to that one song but I gave the other songs a go and I realized why Whitesnake are one of the more popular hard rock bands from the 1980s. "Is This Love?", "Straight For The Heart" and "Don't Turn Away" are all excellent tracks. David Coverdale has a powerful voice that puts many of today's Indie bands to shame and John Sykes is great guitarist and every solo is pleasurable to listen to. "Here I Go Again" is still my favourite track however and Adrian Vandenberg's guest solo on that track is one of the best I've heard. Vandenberg would later appear as a proper member of Whitesnake later on.
Over all, a top notch album.

From the product description: "While the album wasn't on par with such past releases as 1984's SLIDE IT IN and 1987's smash self-titled release..."

What an utter load of you know what. Vai destroys all those who went before him and Coverdale delivers a Leviathan vocal effort that you will be hard-pressed to find anywhere else. Combine that with wonderful songs and fantastic production and you've got the best album Whitesnake ever made. I simply do not fathom the old stalwarts' objections to this album. Let them enjoy early Whitesnake and let this album be in a class of it's own.

Though there are some doubters out there, this remains their best album. The very best of the rock & blues WS - not beaten by the very different US rocker albums - and has not dated in sound (ignore the lyrics, they still make you smile). The WS classic. Bad to be good replicates the humour and updates it - worth checking out too!

This classic album was recorded seven years before Whitesnake broke through in America, having changed their sound from hard, bluesy rock n' roll to big-haired pop metal, so the version of "Fool For Your Loving" that kicks off "Ready An' Willing" is the original gritty rocker, not the slick, keyboard-laden and slightly evil one from the 1989 MTV video.

Back in 1980 original Whitesnake guitarists Bernie Marsden and Mick Moody played big, bluesy guitar riffs and short, sparse solos, Coverdale didn't yet bleach his hair, and the music was raw and powerful, more Deep Purple than poodle-pop.
"Ready an' Willing" goes from highlight to highlight:
"Fool For Your Loving", the hard-rocking "Sweet Talker", the superbly groovy "Ready An' Willing", the dirty, ... Read More:

Some of the criticism of this album in other reviews is seriously misplaced. The reviewer who points out (correctly) that this CD was recorded digitally in the 1st instance has clearly not played this new remaster back to back with the original. The remaster wipes the floor with the original due to the obvious advances in digital technology over the 20 years since the original release. The other reviewer who states she won't buy the album because "Slow an Easy" is not on it obviously doesn't realise that it was never on the album in the 1st place! So ignore these gripes and look at the positives- the music sounds awesome, Coverdale is on fire, and the revamped packaging is fantastic. And what's more, you get the original vidoes with Tawny Kitaen for good measure!
