The problem with the Shea Stadium gig was that they were supporting a stadium rock band (The Who) and, thus, concentrated on some of their more audience-friendly tracks.

The best live Clash track I have ever heard is Complete Control. Other great lives songs include White Man In Hammersmith Palais, London's Burning and Capital Radio. None of which feature here.

Although there are some great Clash songs on here, and some are better than on the second half of From Here To Eternity, this does not represent the best of the Clash live.

To get a true picture of what the Clash were like live, you'd probably need the first half of From Here To Eternity, mixed with a random selection of tracks from this CD.

On the front of this album is a sticker which proclaims 'this band will change your life'. Hmmmm. Not really though will they. Not in a Stones, Beatles, Dylan, Hendrix, Stone Roses, Smiths, Oasis kind of way. Typical Radio 1/NME hyperbole. This band is average at best. I wanted to like it but couldn't bring myself to. Now, I'm a sucker for long hair and beards on any rock band, that coupled with all the hype and the fact that I had some spare HMV vouchers to burn I thought I'd give this a try. I put the cd in with great expectation. The first song started up, with it's sudden bursts of guitar seemingly out of no where, I actually thought the cd was skipping because it seemed to go on forever. Not a good start. I excused that first faux pas and moved ... Read More:

Yes its a bit more of a mainstream approach but i still love it, Its less experimental than The sufferer and the witness, but personally i have all of their albums on shuffle with some protest the hero and sometimes i find it hard to think what album they are off just listening to it, Best album by them personally.

Whatever people tell me about the ramones: i always say that these guys defined punk music. Still today The Jam is a classic band that will always have a place in my album collection. This CD however is overdoing everything. Punk rock albums are usually very short and having to listen to 20 songs that do all sound extremely simmilar can get tedious. More than this I believe that punk bands very designed for live performances: they had a great attitude to live acts which made them amazing to listen to. The CD takes the heart out of this genre and for that i mark it down. Also there are a few songs could have done without.

It's early 1978 and already the Buzzcocks' blueprint is well-established; L.O.V.E.

The Fab Four's debut album is a lot of things; fast, furious, spiky, even progressive, but the golden thread throughout is love.

The album kicks off in fine fettle with "Fast Cars", "No Reply" and the 100MPH "You Tear Me Up", but the album really comes into it's own with the first of Pete's love songs, the delicious "Get On Our Own", a surefire single if I ever heard one. The album then dips a little with "Love Battery" and "Sixteen" before coming back to form with one of Pete's catchiest songs, the immense "I Don't Mind", just as good as "Ever Fallen" in my mind. Two great tracks follow, another Pete love song in "Fiction Romance" and one of Steve ... Read More:

I originally posted the review below on the 2001 release which has been deleted for many a year.

It's nice to see this classic album given a deserved re-release, especially as it's (yet another) two-disc deluxe edition. The album has had a welcome remaster and included unreleased demos and live tracks.

OK, this is the original lineups last album. Released in September 1979, it shows that the band were heading in a new direction. Though behind the scenes, the band were slowly falling apart, their recorded offerings were still of the highest quality.

Side one is shared between Shelley and Diggle. Pete offers us the catchy "Paradise", the gorgeous "You Say You Don't Love Me" and it's b-side "Raison D'etre". Steve gives us some ... Read More:

The best most energetic, album I've heard for years.
been playing this album time after time and after over 100 plus listens it gets better and better.

The '59 Sounds rocks. Don't miss out on this one.

Really looking forward to seeing them live in Manchester in 3 weeks.

Five stars really isn't enough.

As Jon Landau said, 'I've heard the future of Rock and Roll....'

"Love Bites" probably falls into that "difficult second album" category of releases that have sent many bands on a one-way trip to oblivion. It's an easy forgotten album, being sandwiched between the pure energy of "Another Music" and the self-imploding, ecstasy adrenalin-rush of their final album "A Different Kind Of Tension". That's odd as the album contains their most successful single, "Ever Fallen in Love", which has deservedly moved into Classic Single Mansion.

The first thing you'll notice is the cover and lack of any design element. It's very, er...white. There's none of Malcolm Garretts' usual design flare seen on the bands singles and one album up to that point. If you're new to the band, have a search on the Internet for their sleeves and ... Have given this album a good 4/5 listens now and my concern is its lack of depth and lastability.

It is certainly very cool and with the times.

Their image of bohemian, rugged trashy garage electro pop is very in right now.

Their sound has certainly lightened from the drudge and noise of their debut - possibly a little too much.

the songs here, although still sinister and dark - are more immediately engaging to the listener.

There is plenty to keep you entertained though - last day of magic and sour cherry are particularly good examples of their almost pop-like new style.

It all sounds good - i'm just not sure how long this album is going to entertain me for - I didn't like their debut ... Read More:
