This Album seems to have had a lot of negative reviews and I really can't see why. Yes, it is a bit of a change of style from some of their previous works but it really is a great album, up there with their best. There is less piano based songs on this album, of all their previous ablums it is probably most similar to their debut, Parachutes. The opener "life in technicolour" is an instumental which, in my opinion is not a very good way to open the album. it lasts 2:30 and is not particularly good. "Cemetries of London" is a really good song. Great Vocals and great Lyrics, it is one of the stand out tracks "Lost!" I really like this song too, this is more similar to the material on X & Y. Duffy is probably the best R&B singer to come from these shores in a long long time. This album is phenomenal. Every track seems to accentuates her vocal range. The musicians supporting her are also very worthy of recognition. I particularly like the unique drum tuning on Mercy and the 60's keyboard playing. The tracks themselves vary but are all interesting: but I doubt that anyone could render them as well as she does. This album is one of the best that I have heard for a long time. A definite buy recommendation.

I love my 'freak folk', my Newsoms, my Oldhams et al. I love close multi-part harmonies, and I love Sub-Pop records. Even so, I had my misgivings about picking this album up, having heard a couple of tracks which, while they sounded ok, did not exactly have me raving. However, I found a cheap vinyl copy and duly bought it. Next time I'll listen to my gut. What is so surprising about this album is just how remarkably dull and lifeless it is. The frothing reviewers, virtually in raptures describing the 'incredible' and 'otherworldly' harmonies, have clearly never heard a Zombies, CSNY or Beach Boys record before, because there is literally nothing here that you haven't heard before and in a more lively and characterful form on a record ... Quite simply the most beautiful, amazing album from Sigur Ros. Much catchier music, but they still haven't lost their allure. Their earlier music is somehow heavier. If this is the first album you listen too , you'll fall in love with Sigur Ros like I have.

Very impressed. Great sound. Brilliant. Such a wide variety of tracks and sounds.

I have to say I never thought Dennis could do a record like this one... yes I know I'm an idiot. But seriously, I am overblown by the feeling of these songs (Farewell my Friend, Time, End of Show), every song has the right element of surrounding sounds but never disturbing the greatness of the melodies and the amazing piano tracks. Unbelievably he included funky songs (pacific ocean blue) in this album and they all fit together like a miracle or whatever you want to call it. He blends the classic beach boys sound on a subtle way, with the Beatles creating an atmosphere making it very personal to listen to. The opening track has a calling drum beat, wakes you, eyes wide you are ready to listen. Awaken this track "The Hurlers" continues in the folk tradition of presenting expressions of influential events or memories that exists or have existed albeit with a progressive folk musicality. Poor Man's Heaven has eleven tracks themed around the coast, a number of them from this foot of England close to home for me. The Hurlers/hurling was something I was taught about at school and those service people who give the lives for the protection of others is a poignant remembrance in Solmon Browne. The Cornish Seascape is dark and edgy and holds many secrets and tragedies. The musicality of this offering depicts that scene. It's gutsy, melodic and stomps ... Read More:

This is not his best, but it's not as bad as some make out.There are a couple of tracks, God being the main one , that I just don't get.However in 21 tracks there will be a couple of mis hits.I saw the tour for this album and to be frank, it sounded much better live.Enjoyable, but far from his best

CD won't play in my PC or rip to MP3, so beware. It may or may not be enchanting etc but right now Universal have pulled a fast one by selling stuff I can't listen to. Record companies need to grow up.
