I'd heard a lot about this album but only came by a copy earlier this year for the first time. I'd been expecting dissapointment - after all, the catalogue of great drummer's albums is a pretty slim volume - and 30 years on maybe the moment would have passed. But this one is a revelation - a rarity that delivers.

Dennis had real talent as a writer withstanding comparison way up there with his more revered brother Brian. Not as a pale immitation but as a strong independent voice. The album is obviously the work of a Beach Boy but not a Beach Boys album by any means. Pacific Ocean Blue has a range and depth that is quite unexpected without the pomposity and grandeur of some 70s contemporaries. It manages to side step the sunny ... Read More:

Takes a couple of listenings, but after that it just blows you away. Several standout songs, particularly "How she could sing The Wildwood flower" (which I took to be a reference to an earlier generation of the Carter Family rather than June Cater and Johnny Cash) "Gold" is just beautiful, but particularly the magnificent "Sailing Round the Room". Anybody remember the last poor, or even average, album Emmylou made?

3.I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too by: Martha Wainwright

The warm and understated sound of her debut CD (3 years ago) is replaced with a fuller augmented bells and whistles rock band sound, which merely serves to make the music sound ordinary, and which causes Martha's distinctive vocal style to work too hard to rise above.

The reservations many had about Martha's songwriting on her first (although I thought it was pretty good) have been proved right here. Some songs are good, but none are as striking as Factory, TV Show, Who Was I Kidding or BMFA from the former.

I never review anything without at least 10 listens and sorry to say this CD has remained a chore to sit through. Martha needs to get back to basics, quit smoking, and concentrate her vocal technique on interpreting songs ... Read More:

Having thoroughly enjoyed her more traditional previous album Rough Music, and following the recent Channel 5 documentary on Eliza, I had expected something in a similar vein. However, this is very different. It follows in the trail of her previous self-written album (the underrated Angels & Cigarettes) and infuses her folk leanings with an unexpected variety of instruments and styles. What comes through on every song is the strength of the song writing, the vividly drawn characters and the wonderful narratives. All delivered in Eliza's beautiful and expressive singing style. It's an album that rewards repeated listens and leaves you feeling uplifted on every occasion. Incidentally, if you ever get the chance to see Eliza live, don't miss out ... Read More:

I'm not from the US, my family hail from Kashmir and I was born in the UK, grew up listening to punk rock but WOW! The soundtrack literally drips with the era and place it hails from; every time I hear a snippet I swear I can feel the heat and smell the wheat - so amazing!

I just felt that I had to write a review.

We went to see Dolly last night at the O2 arena and wow ... what a show.

Over 2hrs she played 6 of the tracks above as well as her classic's Islands in the Sream, Jolene, 9 to 5, Coat of many colurs, Why'd you come in here looking like that etc.

I've seen a few concerts in my 25 years but that by far was the best (I think that with no warm up act and the seats we had helped!!)

Buy the cd and then watch the 'Euro 08' tour DVD when its released.

After a great review in The S. Times, I am disappointed. I guess it's aimed at the 60+ year old American male whose memories will be stirred - but not mine.
The accompanying book is an interesting odd-ball but not enough to warrant buying the CD.

After the impact of their brilliant debut album, the Kings' follow-up album was eagerly anticipated. And they delivered BIG time!

Aha Shake Heartbreak (though an odd name for an album) simply solidifies the thoughts among many (myself included) that the KOL are the best rock band to have come out of America for a long, long time.

It is chock-full of lively, driving numbers, awash with Caleb's Southern, twangy drawl, Nathan's snappy and precise drumming (check out "Velvet Snow") and Matthew and Jared's solid bass-lines and catchy riffing.

Top tracks include "Slow Night, So Long", "The Bucket", "Velvet Snow" and "Taper Jean Girl". "Milk" is a bit of an odd song as it's hard to understand what the opening lyrics are about, but it does ... Read More:

I was quite slow on the uptake with KOL, I only bought this album a year ago but it remains possibly one of my favourite albums and is rarely far from my CD player. I've never once got bored of it and can sit through the entire album without skipping a single track. Happy Alone, Molly's Chambers and California Waiting are possibly the best on the album. Can't wait to see them for the first time in Glastonbury! Utter brilliance.

Has much has i Like Dolly Parton, I do wonder how many more times are her managers going to release her Greatest Hits & Best Of Albums.
I think she should come back and do something New!!

I brought Dolly Partons Greatest Hits back in 1999 The Album i have is a 2x Disc version With the same songs and same listings in the exact same track listing order has these 2 seperate Albums!! Why it has been Re-released has two seperate Volumes is beyond me, Especially when the version i have is still avalible to buy.

I have given this a 4 Star if it was a New greatest hits it would have got a 5 Star, However it isn't. And plus it's not Dolly's thought i blame the record company!!! :-)
